Damage Report

Posted on Tue Oct 18th, 2022 @ 6:05am by Captain Dirk Taggart & Lieutenant Commander Henry Castle & Lieutenant JG Emony Kyl & Lieutenant JG Vespa Kale & Lieutenant JG Camille Lévesque PhD

Mission: The Koldaran Encounter
Location: USS Pennsylvania

Sitting in the Captain's chair once more, Captain Taggart asked, Damage Report?" His crew had done an exemplary job protecting the inhabitants of the planet below. They had suffered multiple casualties including the deaths of several junior officers. The course was already set for Tabula Rasa where rendezvous with Astrae, Vesta, and Wellington would occur. In the meantime he was trying to keep the crew busy with repairs until their long awaited and deserved shore leave.

Henry Castle was in Engineering, the sleeves of his uniform jacket rolled to the elbows. His face told the tale to anyone who couldn't figure out the obvious. Grief, bordering on shame, bordering on... Relief? That felt a little selfish, even to him, yet it was what he felt. He hadn't seen her, yet. Hadn't brought himself to face that particular issue. It was one of the many things being put off to later.

In the immediate, though, he had to face what was right in front of him. The master engineering station, about the size and shape of a waist-high coffee table in the middle of the room, showed the results of the Level-3 Diagnostic. Systems that were in full operating condition, or those that had gone through the computer's automated repair systems were shown in green. Yellow denoted minor repairs and recalibration. Red was the category that held his attention. Systems that required replacement parts, or worse, a complete overhaul were marked in that category.

He took a breath, and opened a comm to the Bridge. "Engineering to Bridge. I'll give you the short version. Our max sustainable speed is Warp 5.5. We can push to 5.8 if we 'need' to... but the warp coils that weren't shorted out in the attack won't hold us at Warp 6 for more than a few hours." The defeat, and shame in his voice was evident.

"Thanks Castle, we will keep it at warp 3 for now, if we need to decrease speed for repairs let me know," Captain Taggart responded.

"Sciences to Bridge." Vespa's voice rang out next. "Aside from a few spills and some nonessential"

"... projects being delayed the department weathered the storm surprisingly well. That being..."

"... the case, if other departments need an extra pair of hands dealing with repairs, I'm volunteering." She paused, her focus moving between her two brains quickly. Still running on shock and adrenaline. "No Terran pickle jar can stop me."

"Understood, Vespa. Thank you," Captain Taggart said, "When the other departments check in, we will send you wherever you can do the most good. Your assistance is much appreciated."

Emony was at her station, looking over the Tactical display with a frown on her face. There was simply too much to do and too much to process.

"Sir. Shields are functioning at 47%, several of the emitters are burnt out and a number of power couplings have blown to some of the good emitters. Phasers aren't much better and I've ordered the photon torpedo launchers taken off line due to radiation exposure risks." Emony reported, "We're focusing on shields for now, trying to bypass the blown couplings to get some more out of them."

"...I-I don't have much more to report past that, sir." She said with a sigh.

Camille was at her station on the bridge and was glad to hear Vespa’s report from the main science lab. She examined shipwide sensor systems and computer processors, not to mention the input from the other labs. “Primary sensor suite took a beating, Capitaine. Recommend we take it offline for repairs. I’m not sure it will be reliable until we do. But otherwise, it is as Lieutenant Kale reported. Science labs seem mostly fine.”

"Well it looks like we are flying to Tabula Rasa on a wing and a prayer. We are meeting the Wellington, Vesta, and Astrae there. They will be using their industrial replicators to help repair ours so we can get this girl back in tip top shape." Taggart left the comms channel open between the Department Heads as he stood and rolled up his sleeves before cleaning up debris on the bridge.
