Mission: Survival of the fittest
Location: deck 12 - Office of Ensign Doe

ON:

Jane was on tip toe. Stretched as high as she could go whilst standing on the desk. It was a precarious position and made all the more so by the fact she still needed a couple more inches to reach her desired goal. A peg shed had an engineer put up for her earlier. She had not noticed at that time that they ad been significantly taller then she was. The banner was pulled taunt but still had enough give to it to be attached if she could just reach it.

Having left arboretum and an enjoyable three hours wandering around the saucer section of the ship, poking his nose into places where he probable shouldn't but he now hew where most things where and how to get to them. Looking at his PADD he saw his appointment with the counsellor was getting near, finding the closest turbo lift he rode up to deck twelve and wandered along the corridor to the counsellors office, walking in the sight that meet him was one of a petit woman straining to hang what looked like a banner on a peg that was too high.

Watching for a couple of seconds trying not to laugh Sleeford placed his hands behind his back. "Need a hand with that?"

The response was something reminiscent to a looney tunes cartoon as Jane jumped and gave a little Eeeepish squeak of surprise. She teetered on her toe a momnet and then recaught her balance after a few wobbly seconds. "Oh...Ummm" She eyed Paul, He was taller then she was. "Yeah..Yeah I could." She said laughter at herself and the situation rang through her voice. "I got a big head and little arms, I dont think I thought this plan out very well," She joked as she moved to hop down from the desk top. "I could use a rescuing." She said looking from him to the peg that was out of her reach with a smile and a sigh. "Good thing you came around." She offered out the end of the banner.

Placing one hand on the desk Paul vaulted up and landed cat like on the desk, standing he smiled down and the young woman. Taking the banner he reached up and hooked it over the peg. "There you go. Hung", Stepping forward he jumped from the desk and landed on the floor, bending at the knees slightly turning he smiled. "Ensign Paul Sleeford here for my evaluation as per regs. "

She watched him move, it was hard not too. He made it look easy. Graceful even. It was fun to watch. "Pleasure to meet you I am Ensign Jane Doe. Thanks for the save. Ill let you pass this one for free this time," She said with a playful wink. "Before we head to my office I want to have you go meet up with the good doctor Trallos first so he can verify your healthy enough to put up with me for an entire hour." She said pointing him back towards the clinic. "I can go with you, I have to get a vaccine update pack," She said wrinkling her nose at the idea. It didn't hurt it was just the idea of living pathogens being injected into her system to be brutalized by her immune system always made her cring.

Smiling Paul held out his hand, "Lead on ensign Jane and as for putting up with you, if I can handle my grandmother at her worst, you'll be a pussy cat"

"Well meow then." She said with a giggle as she slipped past him into the hall.

Following behind , Paul felt his eyes drawn lower to the space between the top of her legs and her waist, nodding to himself he smiled.

Jane skipped on ahead. The clinic was empty for now. Which was always good. It ment she had a chance to come mingle with the rest of the medical crew. She waved to the nurse on duty blowing the woman a kiss as she passed by the front desk. "You look lovely today. That blue really brings out your eyes." Then with all the swagger of a cat in a creamery she entered the door frame to the doctors office. "Doctor I have brought you an offering." She announced with jestful mirth.

Raising his eyebrows at the behaviour of the member of the medical staff who was supposed to keep the crew relatively sane, standing behind her Paul nodded to the doctor, "I don;t know about offering, unless the captain forgot to tell me about the human sacrifices on deck 12" Laughing he held out his hand. "Ensign Paul Sleeford, here for a medical"

James looked up from his padd. He glanced at the two of them and smirked to himself. He thought to himself oO if I could have even a fraction of her energy. Oo He stood up from his desk. "The Captain provides information on a need to know basis. Sacrifices generally don't have a need to know. Fortunately, I've already met my quota this week so regular checkup will have to do." He said and moved over to the central biobed. "Go ahead and have a seat for me Ensign Sleeford."

"the good news is if your good you still get a cookie later, See you up front when your done." Jane said as they headed off. She went back to see if the Nurse could give her the quick update on her inoculations.

Nodding to Jane, Paul walked to the indicated biobed, getting on it he sat and swung his legs "Well i'm glad you've hit the monthly targets doc, not that i had worries on that score."

The doctor began scanning from the head down with his tricorder. Images and text slowly started to fill the master display. "As long as you are not coming in here for being stupid like deciding you will go white water rafting in the holodeck for the first time in your life and choose class 5 with the safety off, you will have no problem here with me." He said and looked at the scanner. "For the record, I have no problems with honest accidents and injuries. Feel free to come in for those. Lesson is just think before you take off safeties."

Laughing Paul shrugged, "To be honest doctor, I'm not much of an adrenaline junkie, I prefer books to rafting, climbing et al. But i'll take your advice under advisement. "

James kept looking at the monitor and adjusted some scans. "Then you and I will get along just fine." He started moving a tricorder around to his back. "Any problems or concerns I should be aware of?"

"During training I wrenched my right knee, gained a meniscal tear, the doctors at the academy did a great job, it just acts up now and then, presently when its damp and cold. Other then that, no I'm fine, in relative good health, I do the usual recreational things, i go to the gym, i use the pool, walk around the corridors."

"So just standard wear and tear." He said looking at some of the scans that were going onto the display. "How are you liking it onboard so far? I see our counsellor found you right off." He said glancing up and seeing her chatting up a storm with his head nurse. A welcome distraction for them both he was sure.

Following the doctors gaze Sleeford smiled, "She's a bit bubbly, isn't she. As for the ship, I've had a little wander around, she's got some interesting placed to visit. Not meet many of the crew yet, who I have meet seem nice. If we're all done then Doctor, I better go and rescue your head nurse"

The doctor nodded. "I believe so Ensign. Thanks for stopping in. Things look good. You're free to go."

Slipping off the bed, Sleeford walked over to where the counsellor was deep in conversation with the head nurse. "Ready when you are Ensign Jane. "

Jane turned her bright smile on him and looking past him asked the Doctor. "Your giving him back?? He isn't a zombie or anything?" She joked. Then she looked back to the nurse. "Ill catch up with you at Paintball tonight okay." Then she fell in step with Paul. "So back to my place or would you prefer to wander a bit?" She asked him.

Laughing Paul looked down at Jane, "No I'm not a zombie, nor did he rip my heart out. As to where we go, to be honest, the last evaluation I had was at the academy by a very old, dyed in the wool counsellor, sat behind his desk, like some old head master admonishing a student. So whatever you decide is good with me. "

"Are you afraid of heights?" She asked hi suddenly a note of excitement in her voice... "No wait.. no rock climbing... Do you like horse back ridding??" Jane asked then quickly switching gears.

"Closest I've been to a horse was when i was a young man and one ran through the town centre, chased by its rider. Several of the bravados tired and failed to catch it. So no I've never ridden a horse, but why not, if the safeties are on, unless this ship has a stable i;ve missed. "

Janes smile was bright. "I like your spirit let go to hollo deck 2 and ride some horses then. You can tell me a bit more about yourself along the way. how's that?" She said slipping an arm through his she started to lead them towards the lift.
