Mission: Discovery
Location: Bridge

[ON]

Frank sat in his chair and watched the stars begin to slow, as Pennsylvania slowly left warp. He could see the star ahead and knew they were minutes away from seeing the first planet found from the Dalacari coordinates. Knowing the significance of the event he sat at the edge of his seat with his eyes glued to the viewscreen. The bright starlight showed the planets in perfect clarity. The second planet in orbit had a bluish-green tint and was their destination. "We shall call it Tabula Rasa, it means New Beginnings."

"Helm brings us in nice and slow and takes us into orbit around the first planet," Frank said to Yarinna.

"Understood, reducing speed to one half impulse. Taking us into orbit......now achieved sir," Yarinna said.

"Science let's get those scanners going and see what we're looking at."

James stood near an empty wall. He was glad to be invited to the bridge to watch the new world come into view, but he recognized that he was of limited use at the moment. He had not a specific station on the bridge so he stood out of the way and watched everyone work and appreciate their skill.

"Aye sir," Zassia said from the Science station. She began dual scans, both focusing on the planet as well as a general sweep of the solar system. She worked quietly, having not even looked up at the main viewer yet to appreciate the approaching new world.

*Looks over at her Captain "you seem to be as eager as a kid waiting for some ice cream Captain" Griffith said the looked at Tactical "Tactical scan the area, make sure we are not being watched" Griffiths added.

“You’re right Major, I’ve never been on the bridge for a Discovery like this, most of my experience was in engineering.” Frank nodded towards the Medical Chief, “ I think even the Doc is excited to be on the bridge. Hey, Doc have a seat,” Frank motioned to the empty 2XO chair on his left.

"Thanks, Captain, I am." He said and walked over and took the chair. It was comfortable. "I think I need one of these down in medical." Leaning back but making sure he was able to lean forward closer when things got into view.

Ens M'Relar was at her Operations council reading out different readings It wasn't too major to report. The young Caitain continued to stay there just to play it on the safe side.

Shri'Rao performed a tactical scan of the sector and then a close range scan of the planet.

"Captain I do not scan any other vessels in the system, nor do I scan any unnatural energy signatures on the planet below. It seems Tabula Rasa is indeed a fitting name". Shri'Rao stated.

Frank listened to the Officers call out readings and information, "What are the atmospheric conditions of the planet and the water content?"

Chief studied the data that was rapidly scrolling across his screen as the sensors gathered more and more data "The atmosphere consists of a Nitrogen/Oxygen mix, with other trace elements including Argon, Neon, Helium, Methane and low levels of Carbon Dioxide." Chief tapped a few commands into his console and continued to give his report "The planet has approximately 64% water coverage, of which 95.2% is Saltwater with the remaining being freshwater. The planet's crust is similar to that of Earth, with many common elements such as Silicon Dioxide, Aluminium Oxide, and Iron Oxide. The core is solid, mainly formed of Iron with traces of Nickel as well" Looking up from the data being presented on his console, Chief offered Kamar a smile "The planet fits within the Class M specifications and has suitable landmass and natural resources for colonization"

M'Relar was checking somethings on her Operations console, then after that she had an Operation Assist take over she wanted to take a break as she was feeling hungry.

"Captain I am reading an incredible variety of Flora and Fauna. Various sea creatures and avian forms as well." Shri'Rao added.

James looked over to Frank. "You are quite the diplomat Captain. This is an incredible world at a glance. Something this good and rare they are just handing over to a strange race out of the goodness of their hearts?" He asked.

"Science verifies the scans provided," Lt. Sh'zyllit reported after running through them again. "At this time nothing abnormal to be reported that would lead to concern."

“Are we sure that’s a solid core, Chief? If so it’s equally impressive. Most planets orbiting a star like this have a liquid core.,” Frank said as he stared at the screen. “Is there any reason we cannot send an away team?”

Double-checking the readouts once more, Chief confirmed his initial statement "Yes Captain, the core is solid indeed. I am not sure how it is able to maintain a solid-state, I would need more time to study the planet in order to give an accurate hypothesis" he explained, looking towards the viewscreen and the planet it displayed "I believe it should be safe to send a small away team to the surface, I am not detecting any harmful elements in the atmosphere or dangerous radiation. Some of the local fauna could be a problem, there are several larger species that could be natural predators so I would advise caution when dealing with them."

"I recommend a standard planetary survey team equipped with at least phaser 2's, Captain," Shri'Rao said.

Arianna looked a bit surprised hearing the fact that the core was solid made her ask, "I have a problem with a solid core. If the core is solid, then what holds the planet together......I mean where is the electromagnetic fields? Where is the gravity coming from?", she questioned.

Shri'Rao wondered the same thing, perhaps it was artificially generated?

"What if we are getting a false reading of the core? Maybe it is truly solid on the outside, but had a rotating liquid core below that we cannot scan yet?" James asked. He pulled up a little computer console that he found was built into the command seats. He was surprised at the amount of plant and animal life, but with such a temperate climate throughout most of the landmass, it did seem to make sense.

"It is possible, however more detailed scans will have to be performed planetside to confirm the possibility of false readings," Zassia responded from the Science Station.

M'Relar was still watching her operations Station, she guessed if someone had a question of asking her.

“Let’s rescan That core, and Chief Let’s see if we can find somewhere to have blown off some steam,” Frank asked.

As all this was going on, getting restless Griffiths stood up and went to the rear of the bridge and used the auxiliary Sensor console, she scanned nearby planets and thought she saw a potential candidate, her mind was already on the blowing off steam part, double-checking the readings.

"Captain, I have a potential Class M planet, looks at a distance to be tropical type, recommend we have a closer look, further life signs are currently inconclusive due to our distance" Griffiths announced.

"Let's take a look Major," Frank replied, slightly surprised at how quickly the Major learned to navigate the sensor console. Not bad for a Marine, he thought to himself.

"Helm takes us into orbit on the second planet, Chief and the Major believed they have identified a suitable candidate for our needs. Who knows we may have found our own private beach," he teased.

"I hope I worked the console correctly, my first time!" Griffiths freely admitted "observation seems to have served me well" she added.

"Understood, breaking orbit and heading for the second planet, three-quarter impulse," Yarinna said as she guided the Penny towards their next destination.

"I am so hoping we can get us some shore leave on this planet, no marine is meant to be cooped up on a ship this long, even though I knew going in this would be the case, but the thought of the feel of sand beneath my feet is intoxicating" Griffiths Said.

"It appears the second planet here is what we are looking for, congratulations Crew, we shall name the system Tabula Rasa, it means New Beginnings," Frank replied

"Don't tempt me, Major." The doctor said as he leaned back in the chair. "I'll beam down ahead of you with a Mail Tai in each hand and check it out for you. You know, make sure the tropical sand and water are ok."

"Captain is it possible that the Dalacari or their allies tailor-made this planet for us?" Shri'Rao asked.

"I don't Lieutenant, that is a good question, and one we will investigate in the days to come." Frank sat down in the Captain's Chair before speaking on the overhead announcement system. "This is Captain Kamar, all departments, prepare for 72 hours of shore leave. We have found a nice beach and will be coordinating with engineering and security to set up temporary shelters and maintain a secure perimeter. The ship will be maintained by a skeleton crew to allow all hands to participate. You deserve it, enjoy the break, and welcome to Tabula Rasa, the Place of New Beginnings."

Returning to her seat next to the Captain she looks over "I do not know about you Captain, but I cannot wait to feel real sand beneath my feet" Griffiths Commented.

M'relar looked over on whats going on, but excused herself to take a break while getting a coup of tea.She was hoping they needed her soon.
