Mission: Onboarding & Departure
Location: Captains Ready Room
Timeline: S1 EP01 Day 14 Evening Incidentals

[ON]

Frank looked up from the report he was reading as the major entered the ready room.

Griffiths quietly entered the room, but not as quiet as she thought, she jumped slightly as the Captain spoke without looking up from what he was doing.

"Please grab a drink Major and have a seat. I just wanted to review some of the personnel files with you as well as discuss the crew's activities. We entered the catapult this morning, and since then you and I have both been on the bridge. I think until we are through this or there is an emergency you and I should alternate our times on the bridge. I've made it a point to walk throughout the ship when not on the bridge to gauge the morale of the crew. They seem in high spirits just nervous because of the catapult." Frank paused a moment and chuckled, "My apologies Major, I seem to be rambling."

She gets herself a drink and sits in the chair opposite the Captain's desk. "Rambling Sir, I put it down to your age *laughs lightly*," she said in a teasing tone and then moving on. "Alternating both of us on the bridge until we get to the DQ proper would be good as for nerves, the crew are not the only ones uneasy about this catapult, I am too. So how are the personnel reports looking?" she asked taking a sip of her drink.

“Old Age Ha!” Frank chuckled, “when you get old you’ll wish you were as pretty as me,” he teased. “I spoke with our Chief of Security earlier this evening and he stated there has been nothing out of the ordinary. My concern is with three-week transit and everyone on edge due to the high-stress environment there will be lower crew morale.”

Looking at the Captain and noticing a teasing tone she raised an eyebrow "Pretty as you Captain!! You over-estimate your looks, I am not one of those women who fall for some ancient one" she teased back and then became serious "as for the Morale, you might be under-estimating your crew Captain, but we should give them regularly off duty time, at least until we arrive in the Delta Quadrant, they will soon have enough stress to cope with. Now what is with this Ambassador we have been lumbered with?" she asked.

Frank laughed and then became serious as the conversation shifted,” I honestly don’t know about the Ambassador yet. It seems he is here officially to assist in building relationships with some of the races in Delta, but after a brief conversation, he seems more interested in profits. That reminds me he gave me a Padd loaded with Ferengi Delicacies but I have not given it to the engineers. I imagine I will hear about it eventually. What is your opinion? I am assuming you met Frel since you asked?”

*shakes head* "No never met him, but knowing he is a Ferengi I am already depressed as I have no doubt he will take the chance to turn a profit as well as be our diplomat, but as for meeting him, I have not yet done so, I ask as I hate to be surprised" Griffiths said.

“That’s my fear, but I don’t want to judge one by the actions of the rest of his people.”

Just then the Buzzer sounded, announcing that someone was outside wanting in, she looked at Kamar " we expecting someone Captain?" she asked.

“No, I’m not Major, If there was an issue on the bridge they would have contacted me via comms unless it’s the Security Chief. I have him looking into a delicate matter I hoped to discuss with you.” Frank pressed the button on a console at his desk, “Enter” he said gruffly not happy that he’d been interrupted.

Frel stormed in looking quite upset. "Commander, I have been here for..." He then stopped in his tracks, looked at the Major, gave her a quick up and down with a slight look of disgust on his face, and continued. "Commander, I have been on this ship for a few days now. I remember specifically giving you a PADD of recipes for the replicator. Now, I understand how your Federation technology is not quite good enough to synthesize a truly spectacular slug worm, but I assure you they should be better than what I have been eating on board." He got a concerned look on his face. "I'm sorry, I understand you may be overwhelmed these last few days. You know, with all the nothing to do but wait till we arrive. And I understand at your age you Hu-mans start to get... What is it called... Dementia?" He then speaks louder as if that will help the situation. "DID YOU FORGET WHERE YOU PUT THE PADD?"

“Thank you for coming, Ambassador,” Frank said gruffly, he was the last person that the Captain wanted to see. “I don’t believe you have met my First Officer, Ambassador Frell this is Major Griffiths. She is a Marine and specializes in a multitude of fighting styles and various weapons. I would recommend that you keep that in mind before intruding into my ready room and disrespecting me. I have your Padd here,” Frank said as he pulled it out of a desk drawer and tossed it carelessly on the desktop. “I may old but I’m not an I’m imbecile Ambassador.”

Without even looking at the Major. "I'm sure she is quite impressive, for a female." He then smiled brightly. "Commander, I would never assume you are anything less than the best. I was merely concerned with your health. We are a long way from Starfleet Medical, and this crew is reliant on you."

He then got a cocky look on his face and raises his hand to his chest. "Now, in case something does happen. I have been a Daimon in the past, and have some extensive experience commanding a Starship. If anything were to happen, I would be more than happy to step in...On an emergency, and quite a temporary basis of coarse."

Standing straight and looking very upset, she walks over to the Ferengi and walks over to him and looks down and in a clear crisp voice "Mr Frell, I know Ferengis think less of their females, but you are now on a federation starship and I suggest you learn to adapt to how we do things on this ship. If you come in here again like you just did or be as rude as you just were, I will bounce you off this damn walls of this ship and down the corridor and straight into a bloody holding cell, do I make my self absolutely, crystal clear?" she asked and then added "remember Mr Frell the 33rd Rule of Acquisition."

Frell looked at the major for the first time with surprise on his face. He has never been spoken to like that by a female. Noticing his error, he took a step back and put his hands up in defeat. "Very good usage of the Rules of Acquisition Major. You have shown me to fail in two rules. The other being 'To underestimate your opponent is to leave latinum on the table.' I have underestimated you, and I am sorry. This new Ferengi way of thinking has been tough for me. I am very open to females being equals. However, the implementation has been tough." He then turns to the Commander. "I am very sorry for intruding and making some vast assumptions. Hu-mans are so fragile, and hard to comprehend sometimes. I must have got my information incorrect. As a gesture of goodwill. I will be more than happy to take that Padd off your hands and take care of it myself." Having realized how that may have come off, he quickly corrected himself.

"Not that you are incapable of handling it, nor are you unfit as well. I merely am now realizing that this task is beneath you, and I am a guest on your vessel. If I have specific requirements or demands, I should take care of them myself. After all, you are a busy man." He then turned back to the Major. "Major, I hope this first impression does not tarnish our future working relationship. From the very descriptive outline of my potential future otherwise, I feel the 125th Rule and the 35th Rule both come into play here."

Naomi gave the Ferengi an evil look, she glanced over to the Captain who was also looking too upset, or getting there oO this damn Ferengi is digging a hole for himself Oo she thought.

Frank was beyond pissed at this point, no amount of backpedalling or apologizing by the Ambassador would calm him at this point. "I have a ship to run Ambassador, I do not have time to be interrupted by things as trivial as a menu choice. If you haven't noticed we have just conducted a high-risk transit successfully. I would like to discuss the after-action reports with my XO. I would recommend you take your Padd to our Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Commander Sky and let her get these uploaded for you." Frank picked the Padd up off of his desk and handed it to the Ambassador. "Is there anything else you wish to say before you exit my ready room?"

"Just one more thing Commander," Frel says with confidence, not taking the hint that he should shut up and leave. "I think you are doing a wonderful job, and I am looking forward to all the good work we will be doing here." He smiles brightly, claps the Commander on the shoulder, turns around and walks out as quick as he can.

"Why that dirty little..." Frank trailed off as he picked up his unlit cigar and began toying with it, "The nerve of that guy, I swear if Starfleet hadn't sent him I'd drop him on the nearest desert planet and be done with him."

She looked at Kamar "leave it with me, I will devise a fitting punishment for our Ambassador and it will be humiliating for him" *looks at Kamar* "If you want me to Captain, but he does need to be punished" Griffiths said.

"I agree with you Major, and I will leave it with you," Frank took a deep breath and glanced at the PADD with his notes from previous reports. "I did want to let you know that our Chief of Security is exploring the possibility of sabotage. In separate conversations, both chiefs of security and engineering have raised concerns about the possibility of a saboteur aboard."

*Double-take* "say what!?" So surprised was she that she could not manage more words or syllables than what she just said, in plain-speaking she was speechless.

“I wanted you to be aware of the situation, at this time we are just trying to rule out any possibilities. I’m hoping it’s just a case of paranoia but when two officers suggest it in separate conversations I tend to take notice. As soon as I know more I will notify you.”

"Understood, so soon into our trip and possible traitors, I am not liking that thought Captain," she said and falls silent still in shock at the news "if there is nothing further Captain, I will go see about righteous punishment for Frell" she added.

“Thank you Major, that will be all.” Frank picked up his PADD and began reading through the departmental reports, his mind wondered as he thought of everything going on. “This is going to make me an old man” he thought to himself as he slowly lost himself to the task at hand.

"Yes Sir" Griffiths said and left the Captain to his own thoughts and ruminations, besides she had to go see the CEO and deal with that annoying Ferengi.
