Mission:
Onboarding & Departure
Location: Iota System
Timeline: S1 EP02 Afternoon
“Welcome to the Delta Quadrant,” Frank said with a sigh of relief. The ship had begun to slow at the end of a stressful three days. They were flying blind with the scanner systems offline, but they would be arriving in Federation within the next thirty minutes.
Following the prior events and undertaking his requested objectives seriously, Oscar had reviewed the logs of the graviton catapult and hadn't liked what he has seen. He had sent a report to the Captain to review later on that day, otherwise, his concentration was on his objective.
"Ship is at yellow alert, Captain," Oscar announced as the klaxons flashed the proper yellow colouration. "Shields up, weapons charged but locked. Security personnel at their stations as you requested."
"Bringing manual controls back online," Cyrin reported, sounded so very satisfied. It was nice to have something to do again. "I'd like to run a full set of diagnostics with Engineering on propulsion as soon as we can, Captain."
Arianna was again watching her console like a Kartelian worm. Her eyes never stopped looking for the slightest thing out of place. She heard Cyrin, "You are welcome to join me in engineering once we get back to normal warp Lt. Xanth."
"Preliminary scans reporting nothing in range, Captain," Oscar added a few moments later. "No incidents reported from Security."
"Everything seems to be fully operational. Whatever glitches we were having all seemed to resolve themselves." Thegog said with a hint of irritation in his voice.
"Sensors scan the area, update our star charts if we can connect with the station's databanks and see if there have been any changes since," Griffith's said standing up and walking over to the Sensor station oO Okay, I am in the DQ, this is so unreal Oo Griffiths thought to herself.
"Engineering says ready on all fronts, Captain", Arianna said.
Yarinna was standing just off to the side of Arianna's station watching what was going on. She wanted to see the catapult for herself.
"Sensor pod is powering up. Will be fully operational in 2 minutes." Thegog said as he initiated the boot-up sequence for the pod.
"Helm begins slowing us down, take us down to full impulse. By the time we bring the engine's sensors should be up and we can get a good look at our Area of Operations," Frank said as he sat in his chair and chewed on his cigar. This was it, they mere moments away from the Delta Quadrant.
"Beginning breaking manoeuvres," Cyrin's attention was focused on his controls now as he manipulated their warp bubble to bring them out of the other space they'd been travelling in. On the viewscreen lights swirled in a brilliant rainbow while the ship vibrated as they crossed back beneath the warp threshold. Cyrin looked around, concerned about the groaning support structure of the ship, then looked back to the CONN. "Warp 9.999...and decreasing."
Yarinna was wide-eyed as the Penny began to slow down. The catapult was slowly coming into view and the closer they got the clearer it became. "Damn that is huge!", she said.
Frank listened to his Helmsmen call out their declining speed as he watched the end of the Graviton grow closer. As they passed through at impulse power, there was an odd jerk of the ship for a moment as the stabilizers compensated for the rapid loss of speed.
=/\= All Hands, this is the Captain speaking, we have arrived in the Delta Quadrant=/\= Frank reported to the entire ship as the rest of his team studied readouts and checked over systems.
"Sensor pod is online," Thegog said. He suddenly got a look of perplexity. "Sir, I am receiving a high priority message from Admiral Quinn." He pushed a few more buttons. "It appears to be Classified for CO's eyes only."
"Understood Lieutenant, I'll take it in my Ready Room. Major, you have the bridge," Frank said as he left the bridge. The Penn had just arrived and already the admirals were after him for one reason or another, surely they didn't know about the case of cigars and Tennessee No. 7 he had hidden on board, in his quarters. He locked the Ready Room door and listened to the message.
"Sir..." Thegog called after the Commander a moment too late. "Major, I am receiving a distress call from a small ship. It appears to have engine damage."
"Confirmed, I have a possible core breach or what appears to be their propulsion system going critical", Arianna said.
*suddenly feeling like a deer caught in headlights* she quickly recovered "Location and ID of ship? Helm be ready to set course" she said.
Cyrin caught the Major's eyes and nodded briefly. As much as they should give the engines a thorough check, of course, they would have to respond to a distress call. Well, he'd needed some action and it looked like the universe had delivered. "Let's just hope everyone's okay," he muttered.
"It appears to be a Hirogen vessel. At heading 254 Mark 11"
The pilot didn't wait to be told, he laid in the course and held ready to execute it on the command. Now that he had a fix on it on his controls, Cyrin was able to see the distance - several hundred thousand kilometres away.
"Warp five, engage" Griffith's ordered this was going to be interesting she surmised, then spoke to the CoS. "Lieutenant Vladinchi take us to Yellow Alert will you, I know it is a distress call, but it came from a Hirogen ship, they are hunters and I do not want to be caught off-guard," she said.
"Warp five, aye Major," the ship banked in space, the reaction in the core built-up and funnelled the energy to the warp coils before the jumped forward past light speed.
"Yes sir," replied Oscar, who had been watching the proceedings with quiet contemplation. "The ship is still at yellow alert since our arrival, sir, per the Captain's orders. All weapons systems primed and ready, shields online. I'm ready when you are, sir."
*grinds teeth* oO Dammit, note to self learn from mistake Oo she said to herself, "thank you Lieutenant" she said to the CoS.
"Not a problem, sir," Oscar replied. With a smile, he added, "honestly with how mundane things have been I'd of forgotten too had I not looked down at my console."
The Chief of Security went back to work, monitoring his station, and giving the XO room to recover. He hadn't intended to come across as abrasive or corrective, merely stated the obvious. Upon reflection, he deemed it wise to maintain his silence and complexion. His eyes were trained on the situation, jaw slightly tense as he observed proper protocol.
"It looks like their propulsion systems were hit hard. I am getting plasma leaks from ruptured matter/anti-matter conduits. They got fires in engineering and containment units are losing containment", Arianna said.
Yarinna looked at the Major. "Sir, do you want me to take a look-see?" she asked.
"I can have an away team ready whenever if you wish," Oscar volunteered. He was itching to do something, eyeing the viewscreen. Something about it seemed off though, something in his gut. He couldn't pin it.
She looked at the Security Chief "Go ahead El-tee assemble an away team in transporter one hand Phasers only Chief" she said.
Oscar nodded, "Right away, sir." His departure from the bridge was without ceremony. He simply nodded to the closest Security Officer - present due to the yellow alert status - and had him in tow. As he left, another manned his station. It was a routine walk to the transporter room, picking two other Security Officers whom he saw had a head on their shoulders with things. There was a brief exchange on the mission, the Security Officer's already having phasers again due to the alert status as did Oscar himself.
As Oscar left, Tree took the console. She gave the ship's status a quick once-over, not because she didn't trust Oscar, but because it was just good practice to do so.
With that, the Captain returned to the bridge.
Frank left his ready room and returned to the bridge, he saw the crew was intense as he absorbed the situation. “Status Major?” He asked quickly. He was encouraged by the Major’s ability to lead a bridge crew knowing it was new for her.
She looked at the Captain "Sir, we are currently en-route to aid a Hirogen ship that sent out a distress call as it is our duty we are currently on our way and I have tasked Lieutenant Vladinchi to assemble an away team to beam over to a Hirogen ship when we arrive" Griffith's said as the ship dropped from warp "Onscreen" Griffiths said turning to face the viewscreen and there it was a disabled Hirogen ship "okay Chief get to it" she said.
“Good work Major, thank you,” turning to the view screen Frank spoke again issuing orders quickly. “Xanth have a shuttle ready just in case. Sky I want you ready on the transporter, if anything happens you’re bringing our team back immediately. Grun I want your eyeballs glued to your sensors. Hirogen usually travel in packs, so this is probably a scout ship. The second another Hirogen ship is detected I want to know. Let’s get Medical on standby.” Frank finished issuing orders and turned to the Major, “Starfleet sent a message, it seems I have been put in charge of the task force here, which now makes the Penn Starfleet’s flagship for this Quadrant. The message also stated that the hologram needs to be turned on. Apparently the Admiral didn’t think I would turn it on.”
"Congratulations Captain, hope you know what you are in for?" Griffiths responded.
“I hope so too, Major” Frank replied before turning his attention back to preparing for the away team.
"Understood sir. I can do the transports from my bridge station", Arianna said as she began to take control of the transporters and getting a lock on all the away team members.
"Sensors are fully operational and I am not picking anything up yet." Thegog said as he watched for any unusual movement.
= /\ = Lieutenant Vladinchi to Captain, I have a team ready in Transporter Room 1. Awaiting your orders. = /\ = The Chief of Security nodded to the closest security officer. They were quite eager for this away mission, the first of undoubtedly many.
=/\= "Sickbay to bridge. Sickbay is ready for casualties. If there are Hirogen wounded, I wouldn't mind an extra set of hands or two from security here if they can spare them just in case." =/\= James asked. He walked through the biobed and ICU beds making sure everything was ready.
=/\= "Woods to Sickbay. I'll send a team over, armed and primed." =/\= was Tree's quick reply. That said she typed in a few quick commands on her console - no need to pollute an already tense bridge with more chatter when a few simple commands and a priority message to the Security offices would suffice. And with that, a team was dispatched.
