Mission: Survival of the fittest
Location: Main Engineering

[ON]

Wulfgar stepped back into Engineering after being away for three days. He paused just inside the doors and took in the chaos that was engineering, the noise, the smell and the feel. He wanted to removes his boots to better feel the almost imperceptible vibrations through the deck. He was home. He smiled to himself as he stepped the rest of the way in and at the first open console, pulled up the current reports and conditions of the ship to catch himself up. He was so engrossed that he didn't hear someone approach him from behind.

Leaning over his shoulder, "Welcome back son!" Arianna said softly.

Wulfgar jumped as he had been engrossed at the console and let out a nervous laugh as he turned to face Arianna. "Thank you Ma'am, it's good to be back here. Thankfully it wasn't as long as I feared it would be. Anything you need me to concentrate on right now?" He asked, eager to jump right to work.

"Yes we need to run level 2 diagnostics to make sure we are doing OK. Can't run level 1's cause it would take too long to do a visual check of each system and I need people available for whatvever crops up," Arianna said smiling.

"Aye ma'am. Running level two diagnostics on primary systems now. Estimated time to completion is..." Wulfgar said as he tapped the commands into his console. "Fifteen minutes Ma'am. Queuing up level two diagnostics on secondary and non essential systems to autorun when primary systems are completed. Estimated time to completion of second diagnostics is 34 minutes 28 seconds, Ma'am."

"Very good, see to it that they are completed best possible speed, while I double check the warp core," Arianna said. Looking at her protégé, she smiled gratefully. He will make a wonderful CEO one day. Walking over to the ships display board on the wall and started to double check each power tap and flow regulator on all 18 coils in each nacelle housing. A huge undertaking but one she was used to doing.

A half an hour later Wulfgar walked over to Arianna. "Here's the results of the diagnostics. Primary systems are at eighty percent efficiency." He said as he passed the PADD he held to her. He looked over to see a red light on a console. "Ma'am? How long has that been flashing?" He stepped over and pulled up the malfunction that was being alerted. "We have a safety protocol error on holodeck 2. Three lifeforms are being reported to be in the holodeck."

Arianna looked in horror, "Augusfratt!" she growled. Grabbing her tools, "Wulfgar! Let's go son," she said quickly, almost tripping over him. A holodeck safety protocol emergency is nothing to sneeze about, especially when lives are at stake. It means that the safeties are offline and that is deadly.

Wulfgar was only a step behind his chief as they rushed out of engineering. The other engineers would know what to do while they were gone.
