" So you're telling me there's a band on this ship? I don't mean to brag but I made Riker look like poor man's kirk back in the day. Oh yeah, the woman could enough of Jareth Stardust my alter ego." Dinter mocked. Of course, he knew this wasn't true and he was sure Jane did as well. The fact was what was it was Dinter had developed a Crush on jane. Even after only weeks on the ship. No matter that was just feelings. Here Dinter had the opportunity to revive his Academy persona of Jareth Stardust. (Literary a spoof of David bowie).

Suddenly Dinter got lost in spontaneous singing.

"I could escape this feeling, with my China girl
I feel a wreck without my, little China girl
I hear her heart beating, loud as thunder
Saw they stars crashing
I'm a mess without my, little China girl
Wake up mornings where's my, little China girl
I hear her heart's beating, loud as thunder
Saw they stars crashing down
I feel a-tragic like I'm Marlon Brando"

As he began to continue David Bowie china girl.

Jane nodded then sat back and listened to him sing. He had an incredible voice in her opinion. The song was defiantly a catchy one that made her want to just start dancing. But she didn't. She would likely break something if she did as uncoordinated as she was. So instead she was content to wait for him to finish before saying. "Well, music appreciation club but I suppose we could make a good band after we all got a feel for each other. Skies the limit. You could be our lead singer even." Jane said her voice full of its usual warmth.

"Suppose I'm going to have to bring out my tights and wig" Dinter replied. "Wooh Jareth Stardust will be back after all" Dinter screamed so loud they could've heard it from Vulcan.

Jane loved his enthusiasm. He had a strong charisma about him that just drew her back. Or maybe it was just his carefree ways. It was so refreshing to see some one that would not let themselves be repressed. It warmed her soul even. She could defiantly see him with all his swagger on a stage singing his heart out for thousands of adoring fans. "So Ill see you on Wednesday at eight oclock then right? Holodeck two."

"You won't see me but you'll see Jareth Stardust" He replied making deliberately dumb faces to jane.
he began to head to the local restaurant on the ship. He was craving a nice tenderloin steak.

"Care to join me, Jane?" Dinter joked with partial sincerity.

"I can eat." Jane replied moving so that she could walk next to him. "So tell me what got you into music to begin with?" she asked as they walked along to the turbo lift.

"In all seriousness Jane, i suppose it's due to my mother. She raised me on David Bowie." Dinter replied.

"mmmm Yeah all these years later and Mr. Bowie can still sing the resistance out of any girls heart." Jane giggled. "My mom raised me on a little bit of everything. Even Klingon opera." She walked next to him. He was so much taller then she was so she had to adjust her step to meet his longer strides. She could have just asked him for his arm it would help them find a good pace together. Instead she just smiled and said. "I should really thank that mother of yours for her incredible taste in music. Your vocals are some of the best i have heard in a very long time."

"Nah wait till I sing my true music. My high tenor 1981 Steve Perry voice, Jane bowie was the beginning" Dinter teased

Jane couldn't explain the rush of hot blush that crossed her cheeks and made her lashes lower coyly and look away. Was he flurting with her? Oh she hoped not. He was so sweet and very fun she couldn't let him put himself in danger like Wolfy had done. Wolfy oh boy. Her cheeks burned scarlet. No no! She was reading far to much into this. Alex was just being his usual charming self. She was just being silly. She smiled as she convinced herself of that. She looked sheepishly up at her friend and said. "Well if Bowies is just the beginning then no matter what I can die happy for that miracle."

"In all seriousness Jane . I'm a smart ass sorry can't help it. Oh you would not believe all the times I've purposely got put on the brig. Starfleet isn't all fun. I have to make it entertaining"

Dinter said as he saw Jane's face.

Momentarily they were at the restaurant. "Well here we are Jane"

Jane nodded. She looked at him then. glad now she hadn't asked him. He was joking of course he was. "Indeed here we are. I sure hope they have cheeseburgers and fries." want to pick out a table?"

"Yes I will" Dinter replied. I have the perfect spot mind" he said as he mentioned to a table in the back.

Jane followed him to the table. It really was a nice spot he wasn't joking.

Momentarily the waitress came by to take their order. "Lieutenant Dinter is it?" She asked "Yes" "So the science officer is dating the counselor eh?" She joked. "Oh hell no were not dating, Jane may be...uhm" he began stuttering. "A nice girl but were only friends as of right now" Dinter replied.

'Stupid Stupid you almost revealed your crush' Dinter thought.

"Ah okay Dinter may I take your order please?"
"Yes can I have the futile resistance Borger," Dinter replied.
"Anything to drink?" The waitress replied as she jotted down the order. "Uhm yes a Roddenberry shake please?" Dinter concluded.

"And what about you Jane?"

Janes face had returned to the shade of pink again. She couldn't help it. He was cute afterall. Tall and slender with a very attractive face. She would lie that his voice gave her chills and was a bit intoxicating. But as he said they were just friends and that was simply that. She wasn't looking for anything like that anyways. It was too dangerous. Bad enough Wolfy was so persistent. That was partly her fault though too.

"Strawberry milk shake and a royal with cheese, no onions please." Still it was hard not enjoy Alex's company. He made her feel lit up and alive. As if his energy could really just electrify a room. It was hard not to be enamored a little. He reminded her of her mother in all the good ways. She to had been a performer and had dressed up and sang on stages to stadiums full of people. The comparison endeared him to her. Plus he was just so much fun to be around.

It had been a fun night for dinter. Unfortunately he had run into a problem. He had begun to like jane. It was unusual for him because he had never liked anyone previously.

"Thank you jane" dinter replied.

"This one is not necessarily for you but its one of my favorites,I promised you steve Perry so here."

"In my life I see where I've been
I said that I'd never fall again
Within myself I was wrong
My searching ain't over and over
I know that

When you love a woman
You see your world inside her eyes
When you love a woman
(Well) You know she's standing by your side
A joy that lasts forever
There's a band of gold that shines
Waiting somewhere, oh, yeah"

As he concluded the night.

Jane let the song sink into her veins and fill her up. It really was so beautiful. When he had finished she hadn't any words. She simply hugged him and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Thank you for that. I know it wasn't for me but Thank you all the same for sharing. Please think about the music appreciation club okay." She used a napkin to dab her eyes and then turned to leave. She had been tempted to give him a friendly kiss on his cheek but thats the sort of thing that got a girl in trouble she had learned. She headed for her office.

"Well there we are then. What a night that was." Dinter told himself. "Time to hit the sack"
