Mission: Survival of the fittest
Location: Engineering

Captain Frank Kamar rode the turbolift to engineering, they had been conducting a lot of repairs and he wanted to check and see how they were going. Commodore Hansen the Commanding Officer of Iota Station had transferred a couple of Ensigns to the ship to help where needed. Frank's trip to engineering was two-fold, get an update, and meet the new Ensign. Actually if he were being completely honest it was three fold, if he were lucky he'd get to see his wife the Chief Engineer while he was down here.

Walking into Engineering felt like coming home, nearly all of his career was spent in engineering spaces, the soft blue light and rhythmic sounds of the warp core were music to his ears. Unfortunately neither was happening at the moment, and the sound of tools reverberated throughout the space. Frank's attention was caught by an Ensign in a pristine uniform, he must be the new guy, the Chief Engineer hadn't put him to work yet he surmised. With a slight smirk under his gray trimmed beard, Frank walked over to the young man to introduce himself. "Hello I'm Captain Kamar," he said extending his hand.

Wulfgar turned from listening to the absent hum of the warpcore and tumult of noises as repairs were underway to look down at the captain. He straightened his back coming to attention. He towered over the captain by a good nine inches. "Greetings Captain. I'm Ensign Duergar. Newly transferred from Iota Station." He unconsciously straightened his uniform a bit. "I just arrived and was looking for the Chief to report in Sir but I can't seem to find a...." He glanced down at the PADD in his hand. "Lieutenant Commander Kamar." His head shot up as he looked at the captain again, only just having realized that the Captain and the Chief Engineer shared the last name.

Frank looked around the room he saw a half klingon woman half buried in a console working to replace a panel. He nodded in her direction, "Your Chief is knee deep in the console, Ensign. She always did like getting into the middle of things and fixing them." Turning his gaze back to the younger man he asked, "How long have you been an engineer?"

Wulfgar looked in the indicated direction and nodded affirmation to the Captain that he understood the nodded direction. "I've been a star fleet engineer for seven years now though it's only been six months now that I joined the ranks of officer, Sir. My father use to run a general repair shop in Northern Washington and my mother was a doctor in the civilian sector." He replied to the Captain's question. "What about you sir? Where did you start your career?" He asked.

"I grew up working on farm equipment in Georgia, my first ship was the Alamo. I started out as a Damage Control Officer, before getting qualified on the engines," Frank sighed as he recalled his time on board the Alamo. He had met his first wife there and then lost her. With a heavy sigh he continued speaking. "I'm assuming with your experience that you qualified on engines rather quickly."

"Aye sir. I showed promise in many areas of engineering at the Academy but I wanted to see the galaxy and dedicated myself to starship and station engineering. I do enjoy learning about other technologies as well." He said as he looked around. "Is there anything else you might want to know Sir? If I can answer it, I will gladly do so, Sir." He shot the Captain a smile. He felt more at ease around him now that he knew the Captain was an engineer just like himself.

"There's nothing you can do for me at the moment, Ensign, but I believe my wife may have some tasks for you," he said with a chuckle. "My door is always open if you ever need to talk." Frank held out his hand, "It's nice to meet you Ensign, I look forward to hearing of your knowledge being put to good use."

"Thank you Sir and it's a pleasure to meet you too." Wulfgar said as he accepted the Captain's handshake firmly. "I just hope I can live up to your expectations Sir and that we can get this marvelous vessel back in order." He offered a big smile.

"We will get her back in ship shape, even if I have to do it myself. I have to move along but I will be checking in with you from time to time," Frank said before walking over to speak with the Chief Engineer.

"Aye sir and I look forward to that time so that I can pick that brain of everything engineering." Wulfgar said with a grin. He liked this Captain, he was a nice guy and an engineer. He watch the Captain go over to his Chief and he shrugged. He tucked the PADD away and retrieved a toolbelt from nearby. He looked around and decided he would run a check and see the full extent of the damage before he started working. He would introduce himself to his Chief later. He smiled as his hand flew across the main console as he pulled up the damage report and began to read.
