Discovery- You have the Conn

Posted on Tue Mar 31st, 2020 @ 11:11pm by Lieutenant Commander James Trallos MD & Lieutenant JG Zassia Sh'zyllit & Chief Petty Officer "Chief" Alpha I CSH & Lieutenant Commander Yarinna "Fanthom" Hawkins

Mission: Discovery
Location: Bridge

Frank stood on the bridge surveying his officers, “I’m leaving to meet with the Overseer, Chief as the COB I’m giving you the Conn. Keep her in one piece til I get back,” he said with a slanted smile. He had been a bit hesitant to allow Chief to be activated on the Penn, but he had proven his worth and Frank saw no reason why he couldn’t perform this duty. With a nod, he left the bridge and went to the transporter room.

As the Captain departed, Chief moved up to the main command chair and sat down. While he wasn't able to feel true emotions, Chief understood the importance of what had just transpired, a Hologram had been given command of a Starship. There had been times when this had happened before, but each of those times was an emergency case, the ship's Captain had activated a version of the Emergency Command Hologram.

Looking around the bridge, Chief took notice of those that remained behind. It was a good collection of Officers and NCO's alike, the ship would remain in safe hands. Turning the chair slightly, Chief looked over at the science station where the Assistant Chief Science Officer was stationed, Lt. J.G. Zassia Sh'zyllit was stood "Lieutenant Sh'zyllit, please continue to run full sensor sweeps of the area and on the Overseer's vessel. I have already attempted to clean up some of the sensor interference, perhaps you will have more success with it than I" he asked. One downside of being a hologram was being limited when it came to innovation, there were times that a biological brain could outperform an artificial one.

"Understood," The Andorian replied, turning back to her station. Her mind dwelled on the pomp of the ECH giving instruction and how to respond, but pushed it out of her mind. She refocused herself on the task at hand, the Overseer's vessel. She watched each of the pre-programmed scans run their courses, and repeat. With a cocked head she began fine tuning and changing the parameters of the algorithms being run, in hopes of securing more information.

Knowing that the Science station was in capable hands, Chief turned back to face the viewscreen once more. It still showed the sleek and graceful ship which the Captain and entourage had just beamed over to. Looking to the side of the bridge, Chief saw Doctor Trallos standing by himself, equally enthralled with the view "How are you liking front row seats, Doctor? Is the view better up here than down in sickbay?" The hologram asked with a smile, knowing that those that worked below decks usually missed out on a lot of the fun.

"The big screen does have better resolution of the viewing." James said with a chuckle. "I'll get out of your holohair in a few minutes. I'm sure my staff made popcorn to watch what's going on. I don't want to burst their moral time. Plus, this new interaction got me thinking again on some hypothesis."

"Oh? Would you care to share this hypothesis with the rest of us, or is it too soon yet" Chief asked with genuine curiousity, he was sure that everyone else on the bridge would be interested as well "Perhaps we can aid you with it, developing your ideas further"

James paused a moment looking at the ship that was on viewer. "With all the sensor interference I've got a few of them. One, what if this is still all an illusion. Your sensors are being hindered and maybe the rest of us are seeing an optical illusion of two. Second: If they are indeed two beings, they must have some form of quantum entanglement with their thoughts to express emotion and sentences like that back and forth so seamlessly. Third: Those robot drones on the bridge did not move. Why have them on the bridge as clutter unless they serve an important purpose, but what is that?"

Chief thought on what the Doctor had just said, he had raised some interesting points indeed "My on board diagnostic programs haven't reported any direct fault with my sensors, however the general condition of that vessel does make accurate readings difficult. Also, there are numerous ways to fool the most sophisticated sensors" Standing up, Chief took a few steps closer to the viewscreen, he gazed at the image of the Dalacari vessel for a few seconds before turning back to face the rest of the bridge.

It occurred to Chief that there were two other perspective views that would be helpful to bring to this discussion, after all, working together often gets the job done. Reaching up to his chest, Chief lightly tapped his Com badge and opened a channel =^= "Lieutenant Draestrad and Lieutenant i-Ra'tleihfi please report to the bridge. Thank you" =^= Chief tapped his com badge again, closing off his side of the channel.

While waiting for the two Officers to arrive on the bridge, Chief turned to face the Science station. "Lieutenant Sh'zyllit, maybe you could help the good Doctor with some of his theories?" Chief asked, looking at Andorian who was busy with her work.

Lt. Sh'zyllit turned from her station momentarily, "Understood," and turned towards the Doctor, "Doctor, I have already started compiling as much information from the sensors into an algorithm to try and decipher the situation. Diagnostic scans are almost complete on the sensors to ensure they are working appropriately. If you would like to see the current information I can duplicate the information on the adjacent console."

"Thank you, Lieutenant, I would appreciate that." He answered and made his way to the axillary science console.

Without breaking stride in her work, Sh'zyllit activated the console next to her and began displaying information requested of her. She continued on her own work, ensuring accurate information and beginning to interpret what had been collected so far.

Chief took a moment to watch Trallos and Sh'zyllit working together, it always amazed him how easily Starfleet crews could work together seamlessly. One day Chief hoped that biological and artificial would be able to work together so effectively, so far things looked promising but improvements could always be made. As he processed the future possibilities, the Turbolift door opened and Lieutenant i-Ra'tleihfi stepped out.

Upon being summoned, which was highly unusual, Vaebn made his way up to the bridge. After a short turbolift ride from the Marine Barracks, Vaebn stepped onto the main command centre of the Pennyslvania. It was a scene that he had not expected. Firstly, the Captain and the X.O were nowhere to be seen. Secondly, Dr Trallos was also on bridge working at a science console. Lastly, the ship's hologram was stood in the middle of the room, looking somewhat perplexed. "What has happened? Where is the Captain Kamar and Major Griffiths? Was there an emergency and no-one thought to contact me?" He asked somewhat heatedly, walking towards Chief

Raising his hands to ward off the approaching Romulan, Chief replied to the man's inquiries " No, there is no emergency Lieutenant. Captain Kamar and Major Griffiths are visiting the Dalacari vessel, along with a few other members of the crew" he said softly, trying not to provoke the situation any further. "As for what is going on here, we are attempting to solve a few of Doctor Trallos's theories about the Dalacari" Cheif added, pointing over to Trallos as he worked at the science station, "I thought that you may be able to provide some insight and a different opinion. Doctor Trallos, would you care to bring Lieutenant i-Ra'tleihfi up to speed?"

"Sure thing Chief. Lieutenant, what do you know about robotics, artificial intelligence and quantum entanglement?" James asked as he pulled up a few screens.

Yarinna was plotting escape vectors as a precaution and prayed that Arianna had left instructions for the transporter chief should an emergency beam out be needed. She also had the Alert 5 up and waiting and the two squadrons on alert.

Vaebn thought on Trallos' questions "Romulans have used various kinds of Robots and AI over the years, I have a passing knowledge with them but I wouldn't call myself an expert." Vaebn said as he walked over to the console that Trallos was working at "Quantum Entanglement was a theoretical technology for years, I am unaware of anyone who has truly mastered it. Anyone that has developed a QE device would have a great tactical advantage, real-time communication over a limitless distance that can't be detected or hacked into. Why do you ask?"

"The ship over there has a number of robots, droids, drones or whatever you want to call them in the field of view. They don't move at all. They wouldn't be on the bridge if they didn't serve some purpose. The way these beings communicate makes me wonder if their minds aren't synced somehow since they do not hesitate when trading off mid-sentence. I'm trying to figure out what those robots might do or be capable of and if they are somehow tied into this ability they have." The doctor said pulling up some information. "The problem is scans are only giving us very minimal information, and that's assuming it's accurate."

Yarinna was praying and hoping that she would get a look at their slip fighters. She had had a notion that they would prove equally fascinating as their fighters would be to the Dalacari.

Frank stepped on to the bridge,”Helm lay in the coordinates from the Dalacari, warp three.” He sat in his chair and watched the stars begin to streak by.

"Warp 3 aye sir. Coordinates laid in and warp 3 engaged", Yarinna said looking at her captain's face and assumed that something was not quite alright. "Captain......is everything ok with you?", she asked.

“Everything is fine thank you, just anxious from sitting still too long, I want to see the stars slip, I guess you could say I’m itching to explore,” Frank said with a gentle smile.

Vaebn looked towards the Captain, as he sat down in the Command chair. While he was used to Officers just walking onto the bridge and issuing orders straight away, it was a little unusual for Starfleet officers. Since the situation did not affect him, he pushed the thoughts from his mind and refocused on the problem at hand, turning back to Doctor Trallos "I believe we should continue this discussion elsewhere Doctor, we may not get the peace we need on the bridge, to study the situation closely" he said with a crisp voice.

"Agreed. I'll just end up taking up space here. Why don't we head down to my office. I can switch a terminal over to science in the med labs. Will give us some tools too." James replied with a nod.

"Very well then Doctor, let us go there now" Vaebn replied in his usual cool tone, he started to head towards the turbo lift at the side of the bridge, not even waiting for Trallos to follow him. Romulans were many things, efficient was definitely one of those things.

Chief watched as Vaebn and Trallos headed towards the turbolift, he had been watching the pair working and knew that they were going to continue their work elsewhere. After a moment, Chief walked up to the Captain as he sat in the centre seat, seemingly just gazing at the stars as they streaked by "Captain, while you were out for dinner, the crew had come up with some interesting hypothesises about the Dalacari. I believe that Doctor Trallos and Lieutenant Vaebn have just gone to continue those discussions now." Chief said as he indicated towards the very turbolift the pair had used to leave the bridge "With your permission, I would like to join them and also bring Lieutenant Sh'zyllit along as well."

"Permission Granted," Frank replied.

Lt Sh'zyllit nodded towards the Chief and turned back to her station. She saved and shut down the station before leaving the work area and walked over to the turbo lift. "I will meet you down there Chief," She said simply entering the turbo lift.

Yarinna couldn't help but sense and feel something was not quite status quo with her captain. oOI wonder if everything is ok with Arianna and HannahOo she thought*looking once again back at the captain*.
