Mission: Discovery
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: S01 EP04 Incidentals

Kerri had come aboard the USS Pennsylvania with the hopes of starting fresh. The Betazoid Science Officer wasn't sure what to make of the decision to return to Starfleet, at least not yet, but she did know she was looking forward to the opportunity. She crossed the bridge after coming out of the turbolift and headed straight for the Captain's Ready Room. The computer had told her he was there.

She took a deep breath, reached up, and pressed the chime. Now all Kerri could do was stand there with a PADD in front of her containing her orders and wait for him to answer her.

"Enter," Frank said, looking up he saw the new Science Officer enter. He set his unlit cigar on his desk and stood up, "Welcome Aboard Lieutenant, I trust your journey here was uneventful."

"Fairly uneventful," Kerri told him, "I was stuck in the mess hall once with someone who, upon realizing I'm Betazoid, repeatedly asked me what they were thinking. Eventually I was able to escape their weird questioning," She told him with a slight smirk on her face. Kerri placed the PADD onto the desk, "Here are my orders sir," She said.

Frank smiled, "There are some misconceptions about your people and their abilities. Feel free to get a drink and have a seat Lieutenant. I'd like to brief you on what our mission is and the objectives we hope to accomplish," Frank said as he sat down in his chair.

She wasn't thirsty, but Kerri did take a seat, "Sounds good to me sir," She commented with a smile on her face. "Not everyone assumes that we Betazoids are constantly reading the thoughts of others. And, I've heard more than my share of misconceptions about other races too."

Frank chuckled lightly before continuing,”It will be good to have an experienced Science Officer Aboard. You have a good department Lieutenant, and one that will most definitely be busy in the next few months. Our primary mission is to begin mapping the Delta Quadrant working from Voyager’s maps, but Starfleet has recently added a secondary mission. We have been tasked with finding a suitable planet and star system for colonization.”

"Oh?" She asked and perked up almost immediately. Kerri knew that the mission for the Pennsylvania was to explore the Delta Quadrant. She didn't know that they would be conducting a survey mission to find a suitable planet for colonization and was immediately intrigued. "I am certainly interested. Do we have any contending sectors?"

“We are beginning in the area below the Iota Station, there has been quite a bit of exploration going outwards from Iota, but south was not due to proximity to Hirogen space. With our advanced scanning capabilities we won’t have to go far to get good readings in that area. At most it will take about 30 days unless we locate something worth stopping to explore,” Frank explained.

Kerri nodded while taking mental notes, "I didn't realize we were that close to Hirogen space." She said quietly while continuing to listen to what he was telling her. "Have any of the systems in this area been surveyed as of yet?" Kerri asked.

"There is a large area of space below Iota not explored or mapped by Starfleet, and as far as I know we have not had anything surveyed there. I'm hoping to begin in that direction and work our way outwards."

"I look forward to it," Kerri said with a great deal of excitement in her voice. She was already planning out what she was going to begin with in Astrometrics with the Stellar Cartography portion. "Is there anything else that I should know sir?" She asked him.

“You currently have all of the working Intelligence that I have on this matter. We are leaving Iota tomorrow to begin exploring. I will hold a quick brief with all of the Department Heads. If I have further information I will pass it along then. I am looking forward to getting back out there again,” Frank said as he glanced out the window at the stars.

Kerri grinned, "I understand," She stood up. "I'm going to head off to my quarters really quick before the meeting then to make sure all of my belongings are there."

“Thank you lieutenant, I look forward to reading about your discoveries,” Frank said as he stood to shake her hand.

She grinned and then headed out of his office only stopping once she was standing on the bridge of the ship. Kerri took a deep breath to center herself before leaving the bridge in order to make her way down to her quarters.
