Mission: Onboarding & Departure
Location: Various
Timeline: Current

[ON]

James finished unpacking the last of his office. He had only brought a few supplies, he liked to keep his office functional but and professional, but still a little flavour of his own. He organized a short stack of physical reference books on his table next to his terminal. He would see about a small plant for the corner later to add some colour. If they meet any friendly species he might barter for some artwork later to remember this tour by.

As the next shift of staff came in and introduced themselves, James realized he has been in Sickbay longer then he thought already. He greeted everyone and let them know he would hold a "formal" staff meeting tomorrow in Ten Forward. First-round was on him. He would start reviewing crew records tomorrow, first, the Captain wanted him to check in with the XO. He better go to her instead of some random voice trying to get her to sickbay. Besides, better to meet in person than over coms. Now he just needed to find her.

"Computer, locate Major Griffiths."

"Major Griffiths is in her quarters located on deck 8." The voice replied.

James closed up his office and made his way to the nearest turbolift. He hoped he wouldn't be intruding making his first impression.

[First Officers Quarters]

Griffiths was currently in her quarters, which also doubled for her Office, it was not ideal, but she would make do, as she was catching up on some paperwork, she jumped when her door buzzer sounded.

"ENTER," she said loudly

James entered. "Sorry to interrupt Major. I'm Lt Jg James Trallos, the new Chief Medical Officer. The Captain asked me to come to see you once I was settled in."

"Ah yes, do come in," Naomi said standing up from her desk and offering her hand "it must seem strange to have a Marine as First Officer, to you?!" Griffith's said.

James reached out and took her hand. "I try to keep my thoughts like my work ma'am. Patients are still my patients no matter rank or race. Same with my superior officers. You didn't get to Major and command by luck. I will admit, it is the first time I've seen a Marine as XO."

After putting her hand back down, "it is my first command of its type, previously I have commanded troops in battle but never as XO on a Starship. Can I offer you something to drink Doctor?" She asked him.

"I wouldn't say no Major, thank you. I've got all of the flight ops coming in tomorrow at 0900 for their annual physical. I think everyone due will be completed in the next day or two. I can work the Marines in around your schedule."

She nodded and walked over to the replicator and looked at Trallos "what is your poison Doctor?" she asked him.

"Normally this late I would say Irish coffee, but I need to finish up getting Sickbay ready for tomorrow morning so just black, please. How long have you been in the Marines Major?"

*nods* she speaks to the replicator "one black coffee and one Raktijino two sweeteners" she said and the items materialized in front of her, picking them up she carries the items over and hands him his mug before sitting behind her desk. "I have been in the Marines eleven years, I started in OCS before it was merged with the Academy, but I am actually part of the 95th Rifles, but in this case I have been reassigned to regular marines so you could say that I am just a regular marine now, despite this white band across the base of my shoulders" she answered taking a sip of her Klingon coffee.

"Thank you." Takes a sip of coffee. "It makes sense to have a lifer Marine to be XO. I saw we have a complement of Marines on board. We are going into the unknown and it's good to have as many ways of thinking to solve a problem as possible."

"Agreed, I will want all the crew given physicals, myself included when you get settled in, for that, I will make an appointment, as for the marines and security I have plans for them. But back to current events are you ready to organise your department into a form that can work with?" She asked taking a sip of her coffee.

"I do believe I'm able to do that. I'm planning on getting some holodeck time with my team to work on cohesion. I can work around schedules so as you and the Marines and security are available I can get their physicals done." James said taking a draw from his coffee. He had a flight scheduled to be done in the morning, so that would give a lot of extra time for training and walk-in physicals. He started calculating how much time he would need for each of those departments that the Major had plans for.

"With the medicals start with the departments like engineering and flight Operations, those will be stress-related jobs, and usually the most hazardous, same with the Science Department. Then work on up from there not forgetting your own department, what I also want you to do Lieutenant is create a group of medics that can work with security and Marines, they will be needed when SAR and QRT units are formed, having a trained medic with them will help, there are some compact programs tailored to such units in the holodeck memory, choose your people and use those to start" she said and paused as she took a sip of her coffee.

"That is all doable Major. How many units are you planning to set up so I know many people I'll need ready? Also, if it is not too much trouble and you approve Major, I'd like to volunteer my staff and myself for some training with security and the Marines. I'd like to make sure that my department is not counted as a liability in the event of a boarding emergency or other situation we may be faced without here and because of our ignorance to what the Marines or security may be doing, become a hindrance to them I have confirmed my staff are willing.

"Speak to Lieutenant Woods and arrange training sessions with Security for your people, tell him what you told me about not wanting your people to be a liability and such, he will understand, but I have no objections to what is on this Padd," she said handing the Padd over to the doctor.

"Thank you, Major, I'll get with the Lieutenant at her next convenience and will get the departments scheduled out so we are ready before we leave Iota. I'll let you know as soon as I have kits ready for the SAR/QRT's. Is there anything else you would like me to have ready?" James asked as he finished off his coffee.

Finishing her drink "no, I think that is all I have for you at this moment in time, you are free to go about your duties and to organise your department and such, do you have any more questions for me?" she asked.

"No ma'am, I believe I'm all set. Thanks for the coffee. I'll make sure everything is good to go before we leave Iota."

*smiling* "Excellent and no worries, so I will see you on duty then Doctor," she said standing up indicating the meeting was concluded.

"Sounds good Major, I will see you in Sickbay at your convenience." James replied with a smile and left the Majors quarter's. The door hissed close behind him and he looked around the halls. He smiled walking towards the turbolift. With a very long day one down, he was excited how well so far everyone has been to work with. This tour held promise and his department would not disappoint.
