Jane sat on the soft moss covered shore line watching her bobber keenly as she waited for a bite. She glanced over at Wulfgar kicked back and relaxed in his jeans and t shirt. He had already caught several fish and let them go. Maybe she just wasn't trying hard enough? She wondered. She wiggled her bare toes in the soft mud and pondered the whole thing. She wasn't doing anything differently then he was. Except for watching her bobber. Maybe that was the trick maybe if she didnt look she might catch something.

Wulfgar chuckled softly as he watched Jane watching her bobber so intently. How long has it been since she checked her bait? Fifteen? Twenty minutes? She was probably fishing with a bare hook by now. He sat up and gave a slight tug on his line, making his bobber move slightly in the water. "Check your hook sweety." He suggested.

Jane looked at him and then she reeled in her line. It was indeed empty. But then it had been empty when she put it in. She had saved the poor worm from being impailed to death on the massive hook. A lot of her last hour of silence had been her contemplating how hard it must be to be a worm. Then worrying about if any fish might get hurt on her hook swiming by it.

"You won't catch anything with an empty hook besides, these are holographic anyway so you don't have to worry about them getting hurt." Wulfgar said with a grin. "And you can talk sweety just not loudly."

"But you said if we talked to much it would scare them." Jane whispered back to him. "Are you sure we have to use hooks? They look like they hurt the fish really badly." Jane asked for the third time during this trip.

"True, I did but you can talk as long as it's in a low voice." Wulfgar said with a grin. "Plus we are using barbless hooks thus it won't harm the fish. Besides like I said, it's all a holoprogram." He slid over and took her hook, a worm and prepped her line. "Throw it out there and try again. It's fun and relaxing. If we were on earth doing this, it wouldn't matter as I would be keeping, cooking and eating any fish caught."

Janes eyes where all for the poor worm wiggling on the hook impaled her face grew white and pink and suddenly she knelt forward and began to get sick.

Wulfgar leaned over and scooped Jane's hair back out of the slash zone while chuckling. "Better not take ya hunting then." His grin split his face as he dropped the fishing pole and started rubbing her back. "It's ok. I have another idea but we'll wait til your feeling better." Then to the computer he said, "Computer, remove fishing gear." The poles and tackle boxes disappeared as he continued to rub Jane's back.

"Its just a worm." Jane was saying to herself as her shoulders heaved, "Just a" more bile hit the floor. "worm. I must seem." She retched again her stomach in knots. "So silly." She gave up trying to talk and excepted his gentle hand on her back and the fact he had moved her hair made her forever grateful.

"Fishing isn't for everyone, besides, I can never think of you as silly." Wulfgar said with a smile. He avoided breathing through his nose to avoid the sickly smell of her vomit. "Computer, clean up mess in holodeck 2 please." He said aloud to the room. There was a hum and the pool of vomit dematerialized. "Feeling better sweetheart?" He asked as he continued to rub her back

"I like fishing. just not this form of it." Jane said queasily. "I am sorry." She said her arms on her stomach as she let him help her to her unsteady feet. All she could see was the hook sliping into the flesh of that poor worm. She vomited anew glad Wolfy was here to hold her up. She was mortified. What a way to behave on a first date.

Wulfgar smiled and chuckled as he pulled a slightly used rag from a pocket and offered it to Jane. "It's fine Jane. I know it's not for everyone and you don't need to worry, I have other things we can do." He turned and from a bush, pulled a blanket and a basket from hiding. He sat the basket down then with a flick of his arms and wrists, the blanket fanned out to lay almost perfectly. He smiled as he took Jane's hand and led her onto the blanket. "I planned for this to come later but I think now is a good time." He assisted in helping her to sit down.

Jane had leaned against a tree as she watched him lay out what looked like a picnic. Her stomach made a very unhappy noise as if daring her to even consider food right now. He was trying so hard. She made herself smile for him as he lead her to the blanket. She had finally forced the grizzly worm image from her mind. For now. But she hoped to all things divine and holy that Wolfy didnt offer her food right now. If he did this could only get worse. She considered asking to go to the doctor. 'But he is trying so hard. just push through it.' she told herself. In an effort to stop him from unloading any food she curled herself up into his arms when he sat down. "We should do some cloud watching or something first." She suggested her face buried in the curve of his neck.

Wulfgar chuckled a bit. "If that's what you would like then that's what we shall do, though I thought some crackers would help with your stomach." He said as he one handedly moved the basket to the side. He shifted some so that they could lay on their backs and look up at the sky. He wrapped his arms around her comfortingly and kissed the top of her hair.

Jane lay there feeling happy but miserable at the same time. 'no more fishing' she promised herself. She closed her eyes having no interest in the clouds really but found solace in the steady thrumming of his heart beat. what was she going to do?? She ran her free hand in idle soothing strokes over the back of his. Her fingers slid over his fingers mentally registering the new little scrapes and enjoying the texture of the now so familiar rough calluses so common to his trade against her soft manicured ones. 'So different.' It did nothing to edd the flow of her affections towards him. 'There's nothing wrong with different.' she thought her lips pulled into a smile as she let herself relax even more against him.

Wulfgar laid there and held Jane as he stared up into the sky. The feeling of her touching and playing with his hand made his body relax. 'Is this how it was with my parents when they were first getting together? Did dad ever make plans for a date that just went wrong?' He asked himself mentally.

He looked down at Jane who had her eyes closed and smiled. 'I'll need to remember to send a comm to my parents soon and I can ask them. But in the long run, does it matter if they did or not? Your not your parents and each relationship is different. You care very deeply for her and she cares for me so does it really matter?' His mind answered itself with a resounding no that it didn't matter as long as they cared for each other that it would either work or it wouldn't. He smiled at Jane again and kissed her hair before he started to pet her hair as he closed his eyes and just enjoyed being with her.

"Hey Wolfy?" Jane asked, her voice feeling as lazy as the clouds rolling around over head. "Tell me a story." She asked him innocently. "It can be about anything."

Wulfgar thought a moment before he finally spoke. "Once upon a time a beautiful young woman was striking out to discover who she was. She didn't know it but she was being followed by a man who remained unseen. She found herself one day on a transport to a ship where she had gotten a position on the crew. She met a tall, dark and handsome young man. They hit it off and became very close friends. One day while the young man was working, the mysterious watcher decided he wanted the young woman to himself and took her from her room. The young man came back after his shift to find her place had been ransacked and torn apart. He went into her private quarters to find the other man tying the woman up. The young man grabbed the other man and they fought briefly. The young man was victorious and untied his friend. He apologized for not being there for her when she needed him he freed her and she leaped into his arms. They kissed and lived happily ever after." He finished it with another kiss to the top of her hair.

She lay there enjoying his story. She closed her eyes drinking in the sound of his voice. The story was not lost on her. She saw it for what it was meant to be and felt her heart skip around happily at his efforts. She pulled his hand down to her lips kissing the tips of his calloused fingers and the world seemed to have righted itself again. "I love you." She said softly resting her face to his palm, enjoying its feel as it cradled her cheek.

"I know and I love you too Jane." Wulfgar said as he held her closer to him. He slid his hand from her cheek to start petting Jane's hair as his body relaxed next to hers. "You get to pick the next date." He said with a chuckle as he continued petting her hair. His heart had skipped a beat when she had said the three words that he had wanted to hear her say to him. A giant smile was spread across his face as they held each other and just enjoyed being together.

Jane closed her eyes enjoying the feel of his fingers playing through her hair. "Well I say next date I will take you fishing my way." She said softly trying to ignore the taste of bile in her mouth so as not to ruin this precious moment. 'what if he kisses you?' her mind worried. 'How gross. ewww. Yeah need to freshen up.' So she gave his palm a quick kiss then sat up and started to look around for some water.

Wulfgar sat up too when Jane sat up. When he noticed she was looking for something he asked. "What ya looking for? You hungry or thirsty?" He reached over and pulled the basket closer. He opened it to reveal containers with sliced cheese and crackers as well as a bottle of wine and 2 glasses.

Janes face was pink as she said with a shy chuckle, "I was looking for something to rinse my mouth out with. My breath is disgusting." She then broke down into a fit of giggles . She took note of the items he was withdrawing and kicked her self mentally for her awkwardness. "The wine should help." She said trying to help him get things back onto the track he'd been stirring them towards.

Wulfgar smiled as he pulled the cheese and crackers out and sets them on the blanket. Next came the wine and glasses followed by a covered platter. He arranged the set up before them and proceeded to pour some wine into a glass before passing it to Jane. "It's a Picard vineyard so it should be a good wine. At least that's what I was told by the trader on the station." He smiled at Jane again.

Jane smiled grateful that he understood and wasn't going to tease her. She was surprised to see just how much preparation he had put into this. He had missed nothing. Her heart swelled with warmth and appreciation. Where had he found the time? It didn't matter. She took a sip of the wine he had procured just for her and wished she didn't have to waste that first drink to rinse her mouth. At least it would be clean due to the alcohol. It tasted sweet, a subtle bite of cherry and a hint of licorice. Very tasty, crisp and refreshing. "So... Have you heard from your sister yet about her pregnancy?" She asked. He had been telling her about the happy news a few days ago over a quick lunch in engineering. Jane was hoping there was an update. "How did her appointment go?"

"Oh! Yeah." Wulfgar stated as he opened the covered platter where an assortment of meat was resting. "The conception date is estimated around the honeymoon. So she's about 6 weeks now. They decided that they are going to let the gender be a surprise." He picked up a cracker, slice of pepper Jack and sliced turkey and stacked them on a second cracker like a sandwich and offered to feed it to her.

Jane watched him and smiled. She was not entirely sure she was ready for food yet. Still it was hard to refuse when he had gone through so much effort to make it for her. She opened her mouth to receive the morsel he offered up to her. 'It will be fine.' She told herself. 'Just try to relax and enjoy yourself.'. She let out an approving "Mmmmm" as he placed it carefully into her waiting mouth. It seemed alright. No nausea rose up to steal the moment and she was able to chew in semi confidence. The proof would be after she swallowed to be honest. She tried to distract herself by reaching down and assembling a cracker with cheese and meat and then offering it out for him. As she did it struck her. He was being romantic. She swallowed hard as she felt that familiar fluttering in her chest that came with the realization that they were indeed a couple. That this was indeed a date. He had saved it smoothly from her blunder. She couldn't help but smile now as she waited for him to except her offering.

Wulfgar took the offered bite, playfully nipping her finger in the process. He savored this bite and this moment. Jane was finally relaxing into their new relationship. He picked his glass of wine up and looked her in her eyes, those chocolate brown eyes. "To us and our love, may it last for all time and never waiver."

Jane rose her glass in salute to his fine blessing and took a sip. It tasted just as vibrant and full as it smelled. The flavor was divine and everything its lovely scent had promised it to be. Vibrant sweet and crisp. It dances along the tongue like a sonnet for the tastebuds. Most enjoyable. Or maybe it was because she was also drinking in that sweet sweet nector of new found love and all the romance that seemed to come with it. She sighed contently closing her eyes she just basked in the moment. The feel of the sun warm on her face, even though it was hidden behind the over hang of the tree they sheltered under. A soft breeze blew past bringing the tangled scents of the woods around them and the song of the river near by as it babbled along on its journey to the sea. Everything was so perfect. She opened her eyes to look at him again. Her heart near to bursting as she did. She really hoped he was right. That this was their future. That there would be more perfect moments just like this. "hungry?" She asked pointing to the food the offer was obvious. She liked the game he had started, wanted to continue and see just where it might go.
