Security Check

Posted on Thu Nov 12th, 2020 @ 4:01pm by Lieutenant Shri'Rao Sh'veqan & Lieutenant JG Vespa Kale

Mission: Survival of the fittest
Location: Chief's Office

With the initial meet out of the way, next on her list was the chief of security. "Andoorian?" Vespa said aloud, to herself. A phrase that could apply differently to a Dalacari. "No no, Andorian. Yes, yes, Andorian." she seemed satisfied with herself. "So what's an Andorian?"

A quick browse through the PaDD she was given provided an image or two of the chief of security. "Ooooo, what a beautiful hue." she said, aloud, again to herself. Best to get all this out of her system before ACTUALLY meeting this person. Though, the name. Oh Vespa, you should have practiced the name! You can't just call someone by their SPECIES! That's rude!

Already at the door, though, and time to ring the chime. With a smile on her features, she rang the announcer chime at the door to the security chief's office, still wildly estimating how to pronounce her name the entire time.

"Enter" Shri'Rao said.

"Hello I'm Lt. ShriRao Sh'veqan chief security office how can I be of service to you"? Shri'Rao asked.

She milled the name over and over in her head as the pair crossed the threshhold. "Good welcome. My name is Vespa Kale, I'm a new arrival on board the Pennsylvania. I'll be the assistant to the Head of the Science department and..." and she stopped.

Her twin sister picked up exactly at the point of drop off. "... the Captain advised me to meet with several key people aboard the ship. Your name and title came up, so I wanted to at least come by and meet you. Make..." another dead stop, another conversational handoff. It was fortunate that the two were standing so close together.

"... a good impression and such." she had a smile on each face, a cheerful tone to her voice, though still each form had a nervous posture. Worried about the impression, perhaps.

"You're a Dalacari aren't you? Please believe me when I say you have already made a good impression on all of us. Are you going to be crew on this ship? I wasn't aware of that." Shri'Rao said.

"I suppose the exchange will be good for all of us. Has anyone volunteered to work on one of your vessels? Shri'rao asked.

"Not to the best of my awareness, no." Vespa responded, though then perked up at the recognition, "I'm sure I speak for everyone on my previous ship when I say that..."

"... we're all glad we were able to help. Nobody likes a bully." she stated, confident. "But yes, I'll be serving as the assistant to the science department head."

"My background in various fields of biology, chemistry, and my interest in Singular Instance Life made me a good candidate. Or at least I hope they did." she giggled.

Singular instance life? That would be me? Shri'Rao asked.

The pair gave a pair of nods, "Yes. We needed something to call life, in a general sense, that didn't exist like we do. Dalacari do, I mean. So singular instance life it was." she explained.

"It's not just you, it's everyone in the universe who's entirety exists in one singular bodily form. So, in theory, everyone on this ship. Except me."

"That's logical, I suppose your way of existence is every bit as alien to us as we are to you. What is remarkable though is that we can still work towards a common goal. We can celebrate our differences as well as our shared uniqueness" Shri'Rao said.

That statement took a weight off her shoulders. "Oh, I was worried there was offense taken. The Dalacari Bureau of Intercultural Appreciation spent a while working on the term to be used for the entirety of..."

"... Non-Binary Instance Life. As for me, personally, I agree. I'm glad we can all come together, despite such varied backgrounds and walks of life, to come together to..."

"... work and live and strive as one. It really says a lot about everyone involved." she seemed so pleased with this notion. "Okay, so ummm... as far as Security protocols go, I..."

"... am a terrible shot in personal range, but I'm a decent shot at long distances. I'd rather not carry a personal firearm if I can avoid it, but I don't see anyone not wearing..."

"... your colors armed either, so I think that I'm alright there."

"No need to carry a firearm if you don't want too. Different color uniforms differential our jobs and positions. For example I am the Chief of Security its customary for me to be armed with phaser one sidearm while on duty but not off duty. An engineer or science officer wouldn't wear a sidearm in the performance of there duties, unless they were on an away mission. Do you understand?" Shri'Rao explained.

The pair gave a nod each. "If that's the case, and I'd be expected to be armed on any mission we went on, and I can expect that a lot of those would occur closer than a thousand feet..."

"... apart, I suppose I'll need some brush up courses on personal defense." she seemed almost reluctant to ask for such. Not out of pride, though. It was something else. "So do I sign up with you, or is there someone else who handles..."

"... personal bolter training?"

"Yes I can set that up on the holodeck with the fail safes while you are training. That way you wont be harmed while you train. Tell me what is the standard operating procedure for away teams on one of your ships?" Shri'Rao asked.

"That'd be appreciated. Gotta be ready to pull my weight in a scuff." she obviously didn't know the half of it. "As for standard procedure for excursions it's usually someone from security, who..."

"... would be armed, either an engineer or someone from sciences depending on the mission, maybe more than one from them, and a ranking officer to oversee everything..."

"... and make sure things went smooth. Them and the drones." she added, almost like an afterthought before she realized. "Oh wait, you don't have drones here. Sorry, it's just they're always there so I..."

"... mentally misplaced them. We use drones for our internal and external security force. Security officers are the ones in charge of any drones off ship, and the drones are armed with..."

"... Three Pee Cees, so they're the ones that ensure our safety. If things get hectic, we call down more drones." she said. "Oh, sorry, I used an abbreviation. Three Pee Cee, like the letters and number, it..."

"... stands for Personal Plasma Projection Carbine. Standard issue for the drone security force." a pause from the pair, "And yeah that's about standard compliment. From there we..."

"... do whatever it is we were sent planetside to accomplish, and then transmat back to the ship when we're done."

"I will set up some training classes then. We could all use more training. I would like you to provide the specifications of the Personal Plasma Projection Carbine (PPPC), so we can program it into the holodeck for training purposes.." Shri'Rao said.

The pair gave a nod each, "Consider it done. I'll keep you informed on that." a pause, "And, I think that's about it. It was very, very nice to meet you, and it's good to know that my safety is in good hands."

"Dalacari prize our safety and security. So, you being on top of things really means a lot to me."

"I appreciate your candor, also if there is anything I can to to further accommodate you please let me know." Shri'Rao said.
