Mission:
Survival of the fittest
Location: Bridge
The ship had performed well in her engines testing, they could warp, not their full potential but enough for now. Frank decided it was time to test the ship systems.
"Engineering beam a few targets out for Security to practice with please," The Captain directed.
"Understood, beaming now," Arianna's voice was heard. Several small targets appeared outside the ship.
Frank watched the small disposable targets materialize on the viewscreen, "Security fire when ready, take your shots slow in case calibration is needed."
"Locking phasers Captain. Phasers locked on target 1. ...Firing... Three beeps indicated a direct hit.
"Locking Phasers on target two, Phasers locked! Firing three beeps indicated a direct hit.
"We know we can hit a stationary target at medium range Captain. Permission to arm torpedoes, Sir? Shri'Rao asked.
"Granted Sh'veqan, begin immediately," Frank replied as he watched the targets disappear.
Acquiring targets on torpedo guidance. Torpedoes locked ....Firing...
Torpedoes missed.
Recalibrating torpedo guidance...adjusting 3.5 degrees by 1.7 degrees by .075 degrees on the z-axis.
Targeting locks are in, reacquiring targets. Torpedoes locked on targets.
Firing torpedoes........no hits" Shri'Rao said.
"Looks like torpedo guidance will require more work Captain, my apologies. I'll get some techs on it immediately, Sir!" Shri'Rao said.
"Go ahead," Frank replied, "Let's do what we need to do quickly, I don't want our weapon discharges attracting the wrong kind of attention."
"I'll run a level 3 diagnostic on the targeting system. I'll get to the bottom of it, Sir." Shri'Rao said.
LCDR Rouni held the ship steady as they tested weapons.
Looking worried "make sure we get stable weapons," Griffiths said standing up and walking over to the secondary tactical station, she found that she could not sit idle while the rest of the crew on the bridge was working. She really hoped the tactical bridge manual's she had been reading sunk in, she was mumbling to herself as she worked.
"Does anyone else have anything they need to test in a live environment?" Frank asked his bridge crew.
Rouni replied, " I suggest we test the capabilities or take-off and landing the shuttles in the shuttle bay Captain. Or shuttle manager is new and does need some practice too."
"I'm sorry Commander but due to security reasons the shuttle bays and transporters are offline unless there is a command prerogative". Shri'Rao reported.
Rouni replied Roger that LT just thought it was a good time to test the new shuttle manager out was all." She continued to guide the ship along as easy as a kid playing with a toy car on earth.
"I think we can relax the restriction this time Lieutenant, we need to practice launch and retrieval just to test the systems, " Frank said politely.
"Yes Sir, bringing shuttle bay systems back online," Shri'Rao said overriding the security lockout.
Commander Rouni replied, "Aye Captain, reducing speed to .9 impulse. Ensign Frav is clear to take off when ready. Also, may I suggest he fly around the Ship's exterior and send a video back to Engineering so they can check the outside of the ship for any problems while he is out flying?"
"Excellent idea, let's get an engineer in there with him and let them check the exterior. Send Ensign Duergar, it will give him a chance to see the ship over," Captain Kamar replied. He radioed down to Engineering, "Ensign Deurgar report to Shuttlebay One, Ensign Frav will meet you there with the details." Turning to the helm Frank said, "Commander Rouini, once Mr Deurgar reports to Mr Frav give them clearance to launch."
"Aye Captain am waiting for them to say they are ready for departure." Replied Rouni
=^= "Aye Captain, on my way to shuttle bay one." =^= Wulfgar said as he got up from the console where he had been going over to see if he could modify some parts to better fit. Another Engineer took the console as fast as he has vacated it as he headed out of Main Engineering and took the turbolift up to Deck 4.
Wulfgar reached shuttle bay 1 on deck 4 in about 7 minutes and stepped inside. He looked around before he noticed the other Ensign. "I'm Ensign Duergar but you can call me Wulfgar. I was told to report here for a shuttle run." He said as he offered his hand to Ensign Frav and introduced himself.
Grosh was grumbling to himself about the short notice, the lack of preparation, and pomposity of it all, as he worked quickly to prepare one of the Type 10 shuttles. "There. Get in." He slapped the side of the shuttle and finally looked up at his would-be companion.
Wulfgar stepped inside the shuttle as soon as the door was open and took the secondary seat in the front. He glanced back at Frav out of the corner of his eye. 'Man, Frav isn't much of a talker, that or I said something wrong.' He thought to himself. He pulled up the main sensors and ran a quick check on them as Grosh got ready.
Frav grunted as he sat. He didn't like being rushed with his work. He tapped a number of controls. Sealing the shuttle and opening the comms "This is Ensign Frav, we are prepped and standing by for your order."
"Ensign Frav you are clear for takeoff. You and Ensign Wulfgar fly around Pennsylvania and check the hull for any signs of stress." Replied Rouni.
"Understood." Said Frav, closing the channel and firing up the thrusters to take them out. He grumbled come untranslatable Tellarite curses. "You keep your eyes on the ship's hull." He spoke gruffly.
"Aye Lieutenant Commander," Wulfgar said into the comms before he turned his attention to the sensors. "Once we're clear, I'll start scanning for any issues that are not on my damage report." He tapped a few buttons on the console as the shuttle hummed. 'Hmmm, sounds like the port engine could use a tune-up.' He thought as he listened to the shuttles subtle sounds.
Once the shuttle cleared the shuttlebay doors Wulfgar activated the scanners and scanned the ship. They flew a circuit once around the top side of Pennsylvania and then a second trip around but concentrating the scan on the underside. The scans came back with nothing new that wasn't already fixed or on the to-do list.
As the shuttle came around to dock, Wulfgar opened a channel. "This is the Hawkins, scans are complete and we are returning to the ship. No new damage or missed older damage detected. Request permission to come aboard." He said as the waited to the aft of Pennsylvania.
"Permission Granted, Hawkins proceed to Shuttlebay One and begin landing sequence," Frank said quickly.
Wulfgar looked over at his companion and nodded. The shuttle quickly manoeuvred into position and began the landing sequence. In moments, they had landed and Wulfgar stepped out of the shuttle. He had sent the scans ahead to the Captain, Arianna and Simon Hunter. Once free, he proceeded to return to Main Engineering to try and figure out some of the issues with mismatched parts.
"We could test out holographic Chief", Shri'Rao suggested.
"We've already booted him up as long as the restore from his backup went ok, I don't see why we couldn't. Computer boots up the 'Chief' and sends him to the bridge," Frank said calmly.
A shimmer of light appeared in front of the Command chairs on the bridge, the light looked similar to a heat haze but with with a slight blue tint to it. After a few nanoseconds, a fair looking man stood in the space. The man was wearing a crisp, form-fitting Starfleet uniform with a shining Chief Petty Officer rank on its collar. The man had a bright smile adorning his face, light red hair and a matching beard, giving him a very easy going and warm appearance. Turning to face Captain Kamar, the man spoke in a soft and friendly tone "Chief here Captain, what can I do for you?"
Looking up from where she was working "WOW! Hello again Chief, enjoy your slumber?" Griffiths asked.
Chief looked over at Griffiths and gave an easy smile "I am a little rough around the edges, with a few things to work out" He said, referring to his remaining damaged systems. "I seem to have missed all of the action, however, I am still not sure if that was a good thing or not" Chief added, his smile faltering slightly.
"It was a good thing Chief, believe me, the damage was terrible and we still need parts, this tub is currently held together with wire and duct tape and we have lost all connection to the Alpha Quadrant," Griffiths said.
"It's good to have you back online, Chief, we are about to test the Scanning Array, can you detect any faults that would prevent us from doing so?" Frank asked.
Smiling at Kamar, Chief offered his reply "It's good to be back, Captain. Too much sleep makes a hologram go a little crazy" he added with a small chuckle. "As for the scanning array, I can not detect any major faults that will prevent its usage. There is a slight power drop along the starboard EPS conduits, so the resolution at the long-range may be a bit compromised"
"Thanks, Chief, Lieutenant Hunter and Lieutenant Dinter, fire up the long-range scanning array, let's make sure we are good to go. This is the final test for today, Gentlemen," Captain Kamar said from his chair on the bridge.
"Sir, before we left I received a message that the Parts would not arrive till Friday at the latest "replied Simon as he swung his chair around to face the Captain, " and fitted till next week," he finished as he was not happy with the news himself.
Arianna muttered "Damn, needed those parts yesterday, Fek'ar!" Happy that Chief was back and online, helped her not to explode on the bridge but finding out that the parts she needed, weren't coming till tomorrow pushed her over the edge. "DAMN IT!", she growled as her console lit up, "EPS conduit N95 just blowout starboard side," she continued to growl as she fought to control the plasma flow through the damaged regulators. "Sorry captain, it's just frustrating me," she said a bit calmer.
"Lieutenant I'm afraid you have received a false report or a prank sir. There is no shipment of parts coming with the catapult shut down," Frank said.
Arianna groaned at her husband's statement. oODamn it! Oo she thought.
M'Relar was in the holo-Deck practising phaser shots for security warm up till she is needed by her security chief.
Dinter began to familiarize himself with the computers.
Frank pressed the intercom button, "Crew of Pennsylvania, thank you all for a job well done. You have successfully repaired the ship and tested all of the ship systems successfully. We will continue on this heading at warp One to rendezvous with the Dalacari. One of their scientists will be joining us as we explore further. Thank you for your hard work and dedication."
