Season One Finale - Ceremony

Mission: Discovery
Location: Observation Lounge

Frank stood in the Observation, almost a year ago, he had met his officers in this very room before launching from Starbase 11 and entering the Graviton Catapult. Of the original officers, only the Major and Chief Engineer were left. Now he had a ship that was beaten to hell and damaged, and a battle-tested crew. His faith in his crew was strengthened by their ordeal, he was proud of their accomplishments and was thankful to be able to recognize the crew's efforts. He stepped to the front of the room and called the room to attention.

As the Captain stepped forward Naomi picked up a small box and walked forward and waited.

"Crew of the USS Pennsylvania, I wanted to take the time to recognize your accomplishments and in a small way show my gratitude as well as the gratitude of Starfleet. Your selfless sacrifice over the last week has been extraordinary, I would reward each and every one of you if it were in power to do so. We will be at the Iota Station in a few days and I guarantee everyone will receive 36 hours of leave, while the engineers there assist us. Our communications have been spotty but we were able to get the parts request to the station. With that being said I want to thank all of you for taking time to be here as we honour a few of you for going above and beyond in the line of duty."

"We will begin with our first promotion. Lieutenant Junior Grade Trallos please step forward," Frank waited for him to step forward before continuing. "Lieutenant Trallos, you have proven your self in the line of duty, your tireless efforts and round the clock, care has saved multiple lives. You are hereby promoted to Lieutenant, with all rights, duties, and responsibilities therein."

Frank saluted Lieutenant Trallos as the Major pinned on his new pips.

The doctor moved forward and returned his salute. "Thank you, Captain." He said standing straight. He was happy for the promotion, just a little sad the circumstances granted it to him as he was confident the Captain did as well.

Naomi removed the half pip of the Doctor that denoted his Lieutenant Jg rank and opened the little box and pulled out a full gold pip and pinned it on and placed the half pip in the box "congratulations Lieutenant" the Major said stepped back and gave him a smart salute.

James returned the salute. "Thank you, Major." A grin crossed his face at her and then he pulled it back. He had been serious for too long but he could keep it together for at least a little longer he thought.

Frank smiled at his friend and saluted again before shaking his hand, with a wry grin he said quietly, "Drinks are on me tonight."

Shri'Rao clapped as was the custom when someone got awarded or promoted.

Pete Tomlinson did the same.

Rouni clapped as Trallos was promoted. She felt he really earned it on the last mission. A lot of crew members were alive now because of him.

Arianna clapped as she watched James get promoted. He had literally saved her life on this mission, in more ways than one.

As the doctor stepped back down to the crowd Griffiths took a step back and waited for the Captain to

"As the room quieted Frank spoke again, "Ensign K'relar, Front and centre." He watched her walk forward and stand at attention before himself and the Major. "Ensign you have proven yourself since your arrival upon Pennsylvania. I applaud your hard work and tenacity, I also ask that you continue therein. It is my privilege to hereby promote Ensign K'relar to Lieutenant Junior Grade, in accordance with all rights, responsibilities and duties therein." Frank saluted Lieutenant K'relar, before shaking her hand, "Congratulations, Lieutenant."

Again the Major Stepped forward and pinned on a half pip onto the newly minted Lt Jgs collar, stepped back and saluted "well-done Lieutenant" she said and stepped back after the newly minted Lieutenant had left.

M'Relar smiled at the Captain. "Thank you, sir." She purred at her honour.

Frank smiled as he watched the crew celebrate each other's accomplishments, "We're not done yet, we have 2 more promotions to go. Ensign Hunter, front and centre."

Simon stood there shocked by his name being called by the captain and moved towards the two senior officers, as he thought to himself oO What have I got myself into? Oo as he stopped in front of the captain.

"Ensign Hunter, since your arrival, you have proven yourself as the Assistant Chief of Operations, and then the Chief of Operations. Your conduct has been exemplary and it is my pleasure to promote you to Lieutenant Junior Grade Hunter." Frank saluted the new Lieutenant, and then shook his hand, "Congratulations, Lieutenant."

"Thank you, Sir," replied Simon as he returned the salute and knew that a message home was now in order as he moved to the Xo to receive his new pip.

Once again Griffiths stepped forward opened the box and then pinned the half pip to Hunter's collar, stepped back and saluted "congratulations Lieutenant" she said.

"Thank you Major" replied Simon who once again returned the salute before returning to his table.

After that Hunter returned to the gathered where PO1 Tomlinson also congratulated him.

"Congratulations Mr Hunter.." PO1 Tomlinson said.

"Thank you Mr Tomlinson and it's Lieutenant Hunter now" he reminded the Petty officer picking up his drink and took another sip of the beverage.

"Yes Sir" Tomlinson replied.

Roinu applauded for everyone being promoted. She was always happy to see someone rewarded for their hard work.

M'Relar was happy that she got promoted, she wasn't sure if she would or not being partially new.

"I have one more promotion this evening before we move onto the awards presentations, " Frank began. "Lieutenant Rouni, front and centre. The Lieutenant has become an integral part of our leadership since her arrival. This was most recently displayed during and immediately after the attacks we suffered. I am hereby promoting you to Lieutenant Commander, and you will be the ship's 2XO. Congratulations Lieutenant Commander Rouni."

"Congratulations Commander," Shri'Rao said clapping.

Rouni was surprised when she heard her name called she then walked up and stood in front of Captain Kamar and Major Griffiths and saluted. In a professional manner.

Frank returned the salute and shook the new Lieutenant Commander's hand, "Congratulations Commander, thank you for your hard work and dedication to the ship and her crew."

Rouni replied, "Thank you, Captain, I hope I am able to prove myself worthy of your trust." She then returned to the others of the crew.

Again as she had done before Griffiths riched into a small box pulled out a half-pip and pinned it onto her collar "Congratulations Commander Rouni" Griffiths said and stepped back a bit and saluted. Even now she wondered why the Fleet Officers saluted, it was a Marine thing, not Fleet.

"Thank you, Major", as her rank was put on. She talked lowly, " I salute like the Marines as a show of respect to the Marines."

"No real need to Commander, but it is appreciated" Griffiths responded.

M'Relar clapped her paws and whistled a bit for that person's promotion.

Arianna clapped for her crewmates as they received their awards. Like her husband, she was proud of all of them. They deserved their promotions and the recognition that went with them.

"I do appreciate everyone's patience, thank you for celebrating each other's accomplishments. I'm going to switch places with the Major and allow her to begin presenting her awards. Without further ado, Major the platform is yours," Frank said as he stepped into the position Major Griffiths had just vacated.

"Thank you, Captain, *she looks down at the assembled* I am honoured to be standing before you on this momentous day, as a Marine Officer in a Command position on a Starship I have not found it easy, but I am getting there some of you on the bridge and in Engineering may have noticed my occasional looking over your shoulders or asking questions, this is my way of familiarizing myself with some basics so without further ado, normally the First Officers Award is only given to one officer, but for this one time only there are four nominations for this Award, I will do them one at a time so here it goes the First Officers award which is given for Excellence by an officer or crewman during their duty" she paused.

"Would Lieutenant Shri'Rao Sh'veqan please step up!" she began and looked at the Andorian.

Shri'Rao's Antennae shot up, She came to attention and smartly marched over to front and centre.

When the Security Chief was standing before her Griffiths picked up the Award and pinned it to her chest "Lieutenant Shri'Rao Sh'veqan I award you this First Officers Award for your contributions to the mission" she said closing the pin and stepping back and saluting"

Shri'Rao returned the salute smartly.

"Thank you, Major". Shri'Rao replied.

"Welcome Lieutenant, well earned," Griffiths said with a smile.

After the Security Chief returned to the assembled masses Major Griffiths picked up another award and announced "would Lieutenant Trallos please come front and centre" she said loudly.

James stepped forward again and stood in front of the Major and came to attention again.

As with previous times, Naomi stepped forward and pinned the XO award to the Doctors chest, stepped back and saluted "well-done Lieutenant Trallos" Griffiths intoned.

James gave a smart salute. "Thank you, Major. Always a pleasure." He said and stepped back into line.

When the doctor had returned to the assembly the Major stepped forward again "right by my account that is two, so two more left, but please note future XO award will only be added to one person now four like this time" she said then continued would Lieutenant JG Zassia Sh'zyllit stand front and centre" Griffith's announced and as the officer made their way forward Griffiths leaned back and picked up another award and by the time she faced forward the Lieutenant was there. "Lieutenant Sh'zyllit for your contribution to this ship and her crew I proudly give you this award," she said holding it up.

Frank clapped and shook hands with the Lieutenant as she received her award.

She then pinned the First Officers award to the officer's chest "congratulations Lieutenant" she said and stepped back and saluted.

M'Relar was so pleased with herself she smiled with a purr for her, as she looked at the others that were promoted as well, and shouted not too loud, "Congratulations to the others promoted." M'Relar shouted.

Rouni applauded each one as named and was happy for them.

Shri'Rao clapped and so did PO1 Thomlinson...

When all had once again quietened down Naomi continued "now onto the final XO awardee of this round of awards, would Lieutenant Commander Arianna Kamar step forward please?" Griffiths announced.

Arianna almost choked! Getting up she walked up, she walked up to the podium where the major was standing. "Reporting as ordered," she squeaked.

With the Commander now in front of her, Naomi picked up the last award and pinned it onto the chest of the woman "Congratulations Commander Kamar, you have served this ship well" Griffiths said, stepped back and gave a salute.

Arianna snapped a salute to the major. "Thank you, Major," she said, turning to face the crew, she slowly walked back to her seat, shell shocked.

When the applause died down and the place was silent she continued "now with my awards done, I will hand you back over to the Captain" she said and stepped away from the dais as the Captain stepped up again.

Frank took his place back at the podium, "Thank you Major, and thank you, everyone, for your hard work and dedication, I will be awarding two final awards, the Commanding Officer's Award for Excellence. These awards will be going to two people who helped lead during a period of duress. Lieutenant Commander Rouni, please step forward. Your excellence at managing the bridge while the Major and I focused on departments and crew was an excellent example of leadership."

LCMD Rouni stepped forward and was totally shocked and when her name was called. She came forward and stood in front of Captain Kamar. As she did she replied. "Reporting as ordered Captain."

Griffiths picked up the next award and prepared to pin it to the officer.

LCMD Rouni Saluted, "Thank you, sir." And then returned to her seat.

The Major pinned the item on and stepped back and saluted "well-done Lieutenant"

Frank cleared his throat before beginning again, "The final award this evening goes to someone who has been with Pennsylvania, since the beginning, her leadership and tireless efforts have contributed greatly to our ship's mission readiness. Major Griffiths, please step forward."

This was like a doe-eyed deer caught in car headlights, she did not expect to be awarded anything, so she stepped forward and saluted, "yes Captain"

"Major, I am presenting the Commanding Officer's Award for Excellence to you because of your leadership and your strength. You've taken on a command role and have exceeded mine and Starfleet's expectations. I just hope this award expresses a small amount of the appreciation I have for you ma'am," Frank said as he pinned on the small award.

*eyes glisten with tears held back* "Thank you Captain" she said as she let the Captain pin on the award, this was her first Award on a new ship, she had never gotten one in this fashion before, after the Captain had finished she stepped back and gave him one of her smartest salutes.

Frank returned the crisp salute as the applause reached a crescendo before stopping.

Shri'Rao clapped...

"Without further ado, I'd like to invite you to enjoy some small refreshments and take some time to enjoy a little peace and quiet. Thank you all once more for your hard work and dedication," Frank concluded.
