A little Vacation

Posted on Mon Jul 6th, 2020 @ 7:27am by Major Naomi Sylan Griffiths & Lieutenant Commander James Trallos MD

Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Inner tube off shore

[ON]

The sun was in full swing, the water was warm and a gentle breeze was blowing only enough to keep you comfortable. James had never been to Risa, but he could imagine it would be like this, although how nice this planet was, he questioned if he ever made it to Risa, would it be this good?

He floated a very short swim offshore in an inner tube. He grabbed some grey tape from Engineering and had strapped a small umbrella to the back of the tube and had a rope tied to one side. He was enjoying the water in his tropical board shorts, sunglasses and a straw hat. In his hand was a can of something and a cigar in his mouth. He thought about a shirt, but he left it off since he was one of the first to beam down. If the shore for crowded he would probably put it back on and cover the scars on his shoulder.

Finally free to get some shore leave Naomi in a white bikini (vintage style) with her long hair in a ponytail and a light sarong wrapped around her waist and in hand, she had a towel and some suntan lotion in a nice beach bag, she was also wearing sunglasses as she materialized under some shade and walked out into the sun and located spot sand was in her beach sandals but it was nice, she laid the beach towel out and sat down and put things into the order she wanted, then she looked out at the shore and waved "hello doctor, I see you did not wait!" she said.

He laughed. "For shore leave? Not a chance. And with the Chief around, I don't have to sit sober." He called back and hauled up on the line he had tied off on the inner tube. He hauled up his treasure, a cooler and opened it, displaying an assortment of chilled beer. "Need a drink?"

Leaning forward she looked into the cooler "you have a beer in there?" she asked, normally she stuck to spring wine but Trallos was human and would not have any such beverage on his person, but he would have human drinks and she was after all half-human.

A grin spread over the doctors face. "Yes, beer is pretty much the main items. I do have a half bottle of wine of that spring wine, figured I'd give it a try sometime today. I also have a little something that I can promise you that you have never had." He said reaching I'm and pulling out a small glass jar of clear liquid. "This is an old family recipe from Earth. It is Earth's equivalent of Romulan Ale."

She looked at it "no thanks, I will stick with the beer and you may like the Spring Wine, it does not have the same kick as human drinks, but it is nice" she said taking a bottle of beer hiding her surprise that Trallos had some Spring Wine. As she picked up the chilled bottle and opened it, she took a long draw off the liquid. "Wow, that was nice, and to think I have stayed away from human alcohol beverages, not going to happen any longer, you know if I had thought of it, before being posted to the Penn I would have spoken to my friends and they could have gotten me any type of alcohol drink both legal and illegal in the Federation *sighs* oh well, pointless dwelling on it now, thank you, Doctor," she said holding the bottle up at him.

James raised his own at her and drank it down. Putting the empty in the cooler, he brought out the wine and opened it. "I'm glad to see your enjoying trying different things. I've been meaning to branch out myself." He said offering a drink of the wine. "I've had Klingon, but stayed mostly to Earth. A little shore leave on a nice new planet sounded like a good time to branch out."

"Being a Marine I am totally down with that, I have tried Bloodwine but could not take to the taste, as for branching out, as everyone on the Penn this is the farthest I have been out. No thank you, I am okay with my beer for now" she said taking another swig of it as she looked around wondering where everyone else was, looking back at him "are we the first on this planet? As I distinctly remembered the Captain said Shoreleave for all" Griffiths intoned.

"It was the temperature for me on the bloodwine. I could manage the flavour, but wine at body temperature is too much. Either cold or hot, not in the middle." He answered looking around. "Huh, maybe we are. I know I wasted no time getting down here. If I had access to the site to site transporter I would have beamed directly from the conference room." He laughed.

She smiled "why am I not surprised!" Naomi exclaimed with humour "Apart from the obvious, why were you in such a rush to get off the ship?"

He looked around. "Well, since it's you asking and we're alone, I'll just show you." He said as he took his shirt off. His right shoulder was a network of scar tissue and had a slight look of not being symmetrical with the other shoulder. "Being a Marine I'm sure you've seen worse, but I'm a bit self-conscious about it. So a chance to go swimming without a shirt for a little while helped drive me to leave faster. Plus the obvious." He said looking around with a beer.

She gently ran her hand over the scar on his shoulder, "how did you get it? If it was tattoo removal, there are less scarring ways of doing it" She asked removing her hand and finishing her beer as she smiled.

He laughed. "Maybe I need some ink there. Make a design out of it. I have no feeling I'm my whole shoulder, for the most part, compliments of a disrupter. We were at a mass casualty event on the Cardassian border. While we were doing triage, we got ambushed. Two firsts that day. First time I've been shot, and the first time I've killed somebody. The disrupter took most of the shoulder and had to be replaced. The new skin was grown and placed over, but that was the best I could get."

Looking at him with a frown "what about cybernetics, there had to be something that would assist with some form of feeling in that shoulder?" she asked, "got another beer in there?" She added.

"I thought the same thing actually when I came to." He said as he reached in and passed her another beer and getting one for himself. "That, however, was not the conclusion the EMH came to. While it was the preferred option, the surgery would have taken even longer and required more specific care than what he could have provided. Since it was a mass casualty, it was quantity over quality." The doctor said and poked his shoulder. "He made the right call. I can still feel from the arm down, but the entire shoulder has no feeling, but is functional."

"Note to self if required punch the CMO in the uninjured shoulder," Naomi said with a smile as she opened up the beer and took a swig, after swallowing the liquid she looked at him "have you thought about having a surgery to return some semblance of feeling to that shoulder?" she asked.

"Note to myself, before pissing off the Major, inject 5cc's of lidocaine into the shoulder that has felt so it doesn't." He said with a laugh and took a drink and paused a moment. "I've thought about it but would require pretty extensive surgery, rehab, and the chance for random feeling and pain. I figured I can live without it. Plus, on away missions, I'm aware of not having felt so I keep my guard up more so that is the only part on my body that has no feeling."

Naomi thought this over for some time and nodded "logical, I cannot deny you have a point on that doctor" she said and looked at him and with a mischievous smile "If I wanted to get you I would stick our Romulan acting MCO, the guy is so suspicious that I think I could spin a convincing suspicion" she said.

He rolled his eyes and took a long drink from his beer. "I spend too much time with him and his suspicions he'll start having me believing I can feel my shoulder again and it was a Cardassian neurotoxin that just numbed it for a few years or something." He laughed and looked at the Major. "Save that punishment for me after I botch up a suturing and leave a scar somewhere on you. Assuming you even get a wound. I'm surprised you've been in the Marines this long and you don't have a shoulder or leg like mine." He said and thought a moment. "Course you don't get to be Major by just being lucky a lot." He said with a laugh.

"Unlike my friend Lieutenant Colonel Alexandria Somers on the Tomcat I do not have so much combat experience as she does, she is ex Spec Ops and is a trained Klingon warrior an honourary title as she is not Klingon. I have some combat experience, but most of my experience is the administrative side of things I was MCO for a short time on SB332, not much for the MCO to do on there but paperwork" *she said with disdain* "This is why I found it easier to learn what a Fleet Officer does and why I applied for the First Officers post on the Penn, but I do have some combat experience and of course my marine training" Naomi added as she took another swig of beer.

"Well, if you need a lesson in getting shot, I'm you man." He chuckled. "I can also show you where on your body to get stabbed and still have a good shot at a positive outcome with minimal scarring. Less experience with that and more book knowledge." He laughed.

She gave him a dirty look which evolved into sceptical "I sometimes think you are an insane doctor and during those times I contemplate calling the white coats to come and put you into a straight jacket" she added with a smile.

He laughed. "There are days I think I'm not far from that at all. If you end up deciding to skip the middle man and do it yourself, my white coat is always hanging in my office when I'm not on the Sickbay floor." He said opening his cooler. "Good for one more?"

Finishing her current one with a burp *holds a hand over mouth and blushes* "Pardon me, but go on then, one more" she said taking the offered beer and opening it. "I think I am going to miss downtime, but duty is a duty, we will finish this and return to the ship *hic* okay think I have had a bit too much," she said.

The doctor laughed as he put the emptied bottles into his container. "Yeah," he said and paused a moment looking around. "Duty is a duty, and we'll do our duty, but as long as it can be sometimes, I think it makes places like this all the more special when we get to be here."

"Agreed," Naomi said looking around then to the sun "okay let us finish this last drink then return to the ship, I like sun, sand and surf but only to a point" she added taking another healthy swig of her beer.

"Deal." The doctor said taking a look inside his cooler. "I need to resupply anyway."

She gave him a strange look and simply raised an eyebrow and amused eyebrow "as long as you are a sober one on-duty doctor I do not care" she said with a smile finishing her drink and putting it in the cooler with a loud burp "dammit!" she exclaimed as she picked up her sarong and put it on and folded her towel up and picked up her beach bag pulling out her Commbadge and activating it.

"Pennsylvania two to beam up, energize when ready!" she said as she took a last look around at the beach and with a large sigh she felt the effects of the transporter claim them and a moment later both were on the transporter pad on the ship, where she thanked the doctor and made for her room to change, she knew she would get looks walking through the corridors in a bikini with a sarong wrapped around her waist.
