Mission: Discovery
Location: Observation Lounge

[ON]

Captain Kamar waited a few moments for everyone to settle in, “I know this is the first Department Head meeting for some of you. I’d like to take a moment to welcome you to Pennsylvania again. We try to conduct these meetings as a way to keep everyone on the same page. I do hope and fully expect you to share your opinions and concerns in these meetings. Coming from different backgrounds you may have a different perspective or viewpoint. There are no wrong answers or repercussions for disagreeing with me, I’m only human. Before I begin to outline how Starfleet adjusted our mission, you have a few moments to grab a coffee if I drone on too long,” Frank said with a grin before continuing.

He waited a few moments for anyone to grab a final drink before continuing,” As most of you know, we’ve been here at Iota Station since November, some of us recovering from a poisoning incident, and enjoying some downtime. The holidays are over and it’s time to get back to work. Starfleet has asked us to find a suitable class M planet for colonization. They believe it is the next step in the Delta Quadrant to strengthen their position here. We are equipped with the advanced scanning array so we can cover more ground than the average starship. If you look here,” Frank pointed to the area south of Iota Station,” This entire area has remained unmapped. We are going to begin our search here by dividing it into a grid and slowly filling the boxes. Any questions so far?”

"Not so much a question but the point of fact for this area." Sinn started as he stood. "When the Catapult was first finished and this Taskforce was found Starfleet Intelligence sent out long-range probes and communication relays in all directions to get a general lay of the land." Sinn paused as he looked at the room. "I feel the reason we are being sent this way is that many of the initial probes sent into this area either have gone dark or have sent incomplete at best information of the area. So going into this we will not have any preliminary data to go off of." He said as he sat.

"Anything worth noting that engineering should know of? Spatial anomalies, nebulas and such," Arianna asked. Always thinking about her lady Penny on these missions.

"From what we have received Intelligence has not flagged anything out of the ordinary. It is my opinion that while we are looking for this planet we will be using our upgraded sensor sweep to help map out as much of this as we can." Sinn explained to the engineer.

"What was the last bit of information Intelligence got from that area Lieutenant?" Griffiths asked steepling her fingers

"Our last probe reported back more than six months ago, Major," Sinn informed. "That is why our mission is so vital to the safety, security, and prosperity to our presence here. With permission, I would like to work with Ops and Engineering to prepare some sensor buoys we can leave as we continue down our path. This will allow us and Iota Command to receive some better data of the region and watch for any changes or fluctuations."

“Was there any indication that the probe losses were due to malicious intent?” the Captain asked his new intelligence officer.

Sinn felt like he had hijacked the briefing. "Inconclusive at this time."

“Thank You, Lieutenant, I’d like you and Lieutenant Diex to prepare some probes and sensor buoys. I want to collect as much data as possible while we pass through. Does anyone have anything else to add?” Frank asked, welcoming the opportunity for his officers to voice their opinions and concerns.

"Yes, Sir," Sinn replied to his new Captain.

Kerri looked towards Lieutenant Rintan, "When will be the best time for me to come so that we can get started on the probes and sensor buoys?"

"I will have everything I need in about two hours and I can meet you in probe storage," Sinn replied.

Kerri nodded, "That works perfectly for me Lieutenant," She said and made a mental note in the back of her head to head for the probe storage bay two hours following the meeting. She was already making other mental notes as well in regards to the type of upgrades that would be needed for the sensor probe modifications.

"Medical is running optimally right now. We've been following the Majors direction and have trained some with security. I have two floating medics ready for response teams and myself. I think as staff were reading for response teams and to secure medical if needed." James said giving a status update.

"Well whenever you are ready we can get started with the buoys," Arianna said making a few notations on her PADD.

"I would like to see all departments assigning personnel to train for the SAR, Hazard and QRT teams, now we have an MCO the physical training can be done by the marines on the Penn, while all departments should get at least some basic security training *looks at Rintan* Lieutenant Rintan I will need you to train all SAR and Hazard team personnel in basic intel collection as well as supplying full-time Intel team members," Griffiths said.

A huge grin came over Sinn's face. A Captain that actually took intel-gathering serious? Was he dreaming? "You mean they aren't supposed to throw random stuff in bags and trample all over good evidence?" He joked and before they thought he was serious. "Just an intel contamination joke. No harm intended. You got it, boss."

"Mr Rintan we should coordinate our efforts on SAR, Hazzard and QRT training. I have certified personnel who can be used as instructors in that effort." Shri'Rao stated.

"Good morning, " Shri'Rao said placing her steaming fish juice and PADD on the table. It was the Andorian equivalent of coffee.

Suddenly out of nowhere the Andorian Security Officer was their *jumps in her seat* "By the Prophets Lieutenant, you were quiet entering this room!!" Griffith explained as her heart was doing triple time.

James covered his mouth just in time to avoid spraying the coffee he was drinking onto Sinn after the Major jumped out of her skin.

Shri'Rao shrugged her shoulders. How could anyone miss a blue woman with antennae?

"Good Morning Major"! The embarrassed Andorian replied jovially...

*quickly recovering* "good morning Lieutenant, you should be Intel the way you creep up on people! Griffiths responded.

"Perhaps Major. I think I'll stick to security for the time being." Shri'Rao replied.

“Welcome back Lieutenant, I trust your time on Iota went well,” Frank said trying to hide a smile and attempting to get the meeting back on track.

"Yes, Sir I think we found what we needed," Shri'Rao advised.

Once she finished speaking Frank spoke again,” The upgrades on our resident Hologram, Chief have been successful. In fact, engineering was scheduled to bring him back online this morning.”

"I was wondering where the Chief had gotten to" Naomi commented.

While he drank his coffee, Gibbs listened and took it all in. A probe or two disappearings was not unreasonable but more than that, over a wide area was ... curious. Large area to cover, he thought, and to be malicious, that would require some dedication, tracking the probes down. Possible at least. Having already gone through intel training, he knew the basics and would make sure his own team knew them too. As for physical training, it was the start to every Marine's day, two hours before shift start, and, as had been his policy on the last ship, everyone was welcome. Course, not everybody could keep up but that's what training was all about.

A column of twirling white light, not unlike a transporter beam, formed at the end of the conference table. As quick as it formed the light faded from existence, but a male figure was left behind. The figure looked around at the people assembled in the room, some looked familiar but some looked new. Finally, the figure settled his gaze upon Kamar and offered a small smile "Good Morning Captain, apologies for my disappearance, I hope I didn't miss too much?" The figure asked, the figure known as the Command Support Hologram Mark 1, Chief.

“Morning Chief, good to see you again. Basically we have been tasked with finding a habitable planet to establish a colony on. Science and Intel will be working together with some probes south of here, First Lieutenant Gibbs has a small marine detachment on board that will help provide security during the away missions as well as augmenting ships security.”

"Welcome back Chief, I had wondered where you had gone, what did happen to you anyway?" Griffiths asked Chief.

Arianna's head came up fast, "Morning "Chief", she said smiling warmly at him.

Chief politely nodded back towards Arianna "Morning Lieutenant" He said warmly, before turning to face Griffiths "It's a complicated matter, unfortunately, Major, let's just say some upgrades don't always go as planned. The Techs responsible for my upgrades almost destroyed my program, large portions of my core data was corrupted and had to be rebuilt from backups. Backups which are currently only stored at Jupiter Station, so it took a little while for them to get over here." Chief said with a small sigh and a shake of his head as if he was reliving a bad memory. "Long story short, it took a little longer to get me back up and running, but I am here again and ready to work"

“Does anyone have anything else to add before we wrap this up?” Kamar paused before continuing. “While on Iota Station this morning the Admiral of Fleet Operations said that Pennsylvania and her crew were doing a fine job. He also said that my promotion to Captain has been authorized.”

Shri'Rao's antennae shot up.

"When does that go into effect, Sir"? Shri'Rao asked.

"They said it was immediate, Lieutenant Shri'Rao." Frank hoped to move on before a big deal was made of the promotion. "Ladies, Gentlemen, and hologram, We will be departing the station in 24 hours. I'd like all of you to submit readiness reports by 1800 tonight."

"Well then in that case congratulations, Captain Kamar"! Shri'Rao said.

"Congratulations again Captain." James said raising his coffee cup. "1800 aye."

"Well done Sir, it is a well-deserved promotion," Chief said, joining in with the rest of the crew's celebration, Kamar had worked hard to get that extra pip on his collar
