New Years Eve

Posted on Fri Jan 31st, 2020 @ 4:04pm by Lieutenant Commander James Trallos MD

Mission: Discovery
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: 2130 - Incidentals

James exited the turbolift and made his way across the bridge to the Captain's Ready Room, holding his medkit close. He nodded at a couple of the officers. "How are you feeling John?" He asked an Ensign who he treated after the feast.
"Much better Sir, thank you." He said with a smile.
James smiled back. "Good, come see me in sickbay before you head to the Broad Axe and celebrate New Year. I'll make sure your good for the festivities. I need to make a house call for the Captain."

James pressed the door chime and waited for the response.

"Enter," Frank said without getting up from his chair. The Pennsylvania had docked at the Iota Starbase for New Years and alot of the crew had gone to celebrate. Frank preferred the quiet of his Ready Room. "Hey Doc," he said as the man entered the room. Picking up two glasses off of the shelf he set them on the table. "I assume it is time again for some medicine," he said with a grin.

James smiled back. "I figured with the ship in dock and most of the crew on leave, this would be a good time for a refill on your prescription." He set his medical bag on the Captain's table and pulled out a bottle of Irish whiskey.

"A friend of mine I met on the Bajor gave me this bottle. Told me it is good luck to toast/drink this on a new start."

“Thanks Doc, that’s a good idea,” Frank said. “A New Year, a new wife, a new ship, and a new promotion, it’s been a heck of year Doc. I am definitely lucky to have the best doctor in the Fleet here too. Shall we make a toast sir?”

"I'll gladly drink to all of that Captain. I've got the new ship and the best Captain to go along with her. We've got a long voyage ahead of us, but with you in the chair, I know you'll bring us back." James replied as he raised his glass. "To the Pennsylvania and her crew. God speed to us."

Frank lifted his glass,” To the Pennsylvania and her crew,” he said before taking a drink. “I have a meeting tomorrow with the Commander of Iota Station, he says that Starfleet is adjusting the mission for the Penn. I’m curious to see what they’re up to. I’ve also heard that the Hirogen are beginning a new celebration or something. As part of their festivities they will try seek more forbidle opponents. After our last run, I hope it’s not us.”

"If they do include us into the festivities, make sure you don't spare any of the torpedos. We're not paying for them so we can give them all they want. After our last go, they will not give any quarter so I would trust them less then the Romulan Empire." James said taking a drink for the fallen crew that rescued the now Captain's daughter. "What's the new profile if you don't mind me asking?"

“It will officially be announced tomorrow, but Starfleet thinks it would be a good idea to do som colonizing out here. We are to find the proverbial needle in a haystack. Find a Class M planet uninhabited in unoccupied space. Seriously I know space is large but Damn, that’s going to add an entirely new set of problems to the area,” Frank said candidly before taking another drink.

James reached over and filled both their glasses again. "Well they got the best in the fleet to find it. Yes though, it will bring lots of new problems, for all departments, especially if we do find this planet." He said taking a drink then shook his head. "Colonization of a planet in Beta Quadrant is hard enough with all the support of being in the middle of Federation space or at least near it, but this far out? Colonists are a special breed but to be out here and the first group, they must be an extra special of crazy." He said with a laugh. "I hope we can find them a home to build."

Frank laughed lightly at the doctors analysis, “Yeah it will be something, a big headache, I’m afraid we will end babysitting them instead of being out there but I digress. Do you have plans tomorrow afternoon? If not Arianna and I would like to extend an invitation. We are having a small followed by some traditional earth card games.”

"That sounds delightful Captain. My plans are pretty open actually so I'd be glad to join. It has been a while since I have played any card games. How much coin am I going to need to bring to lose?" He asked in jest.

“Let’s not bet coins let us make a gentleman’s wager. A bottle of scotch to the winner, not replicated,” Frank said with a grin.

"I see. Single malt or blended?" James asked quizzically.

“I prefer single malt, Doctor. It’s better for medicinal purposes.”

"A man of taste, I can go with that. Ok single malt it is. My age or yours?" He said with a cheeky grin and reached his hand out to shake on the bet.

“My age would be a bit smoother,” Frank said as he stroked his gray beard then reached to shake hands with the Doc. “The next question is Doc what version of Poker do you prefer?”

"Sounds fine. I'm a Hold'em fan myself, but I don't mind a good game if stud either. You Captain?"

“I like the Five card draw but I will play Hold ‘em and beat you at your own game,” he said as he took another drink.”I know someone on the station who is good at procuring things. I will make sure we get an extra bottle or two before we head out in a few days.”

"Sounds like a plan. Mind if I add a few lat and request a couple extra I'd your contact can swing it?" The doctor asked. "It's for medical purposes."

"I'm sure he would appreciate the extra business, would you like any cigars too?" Frank asked.

"Well since you brought it up, yes please. Can always use a box of cigars. Since we're talking indulgences, if he's got any pipe tobacco, put me down for a couple ounces. I have my pipe but ran out a while ago and have not been able to get anything sources." James said and reached into his picked and put down some latinum. "Down payment. Let me know the bill and I'll square up with you." He said with a smile and a refill on their drinks. He lifted his glass.

"To a smooth cruise."

"To a smooth cruise," Frank replies as he lifted his glass.

After they finished their toast, James picked up the glasses, corked the bottle and put them back in his med bag. The ironed out times for their poker night and James made his way back to the quiet bridge. He did a quick scan on the Ensign and cleared him for his New Year's Eve fun. A final nod to the bridge staff and he made his way to Sickbay to catch up on some reading. It was going to be a good year.
