"Wulfgar's Temper and Regret"

Posted on Tue Dec 1st, 2020 @ 1:12am by Ensign Wulfgar Duergar & Lieutenant Commander Arianna Sky Kamar

Mission: Survival of the fittest
Location: Wulfgar's quarters

ON:

Wulfgar sat in a chair by his desk. His cello rested against his left shoulder as he played. His eyes remained closed as he listened to the bow sliding across the strings as the computer played the piano in the background.

Outside, leaning lightly against the wall, the security officer listened to the music muffled by the closed door. The engineer inside seemed to like classical music as he often heard it when he stood duty here. He didn't mind as it was an easy job. The large guy inside was very cooperative and never tried to leave. He did seem to have a few visitors, one in particular, the counselor. He snapped out of his thoughts at the sound of footfall in the corridor and looked. He had at first thought it might be the counselor but was surprised to see the Captain's Wife, Chief Engineer and the Prisoner's boss. He snapped to attention and greeted her. "Afternoon Lieutenant Commander."

The music inside didn't stop at the greeting but kept playing. It was a piece by Beethoven, mournful but hopeful at the same time.

"Afternoon, I've come to see my Assistant Chief Engineer, and you can go and get some relief time. He isn't going anywhere!" Arianna said seriously. Seeing a Klingon who actually gave him such a serious look made him uncomfortable and spun on his heel and fled.

"That's a beautiful piece of music, classical yes? Besides son how on earth did you get caught up in this mess?" Arianna asked sitting down.

"Aye ma'am, it was Beethoven. He's one of my favorite conductors from the 19th century." Wulfgar said as he laid the bow down and moved the cello over onto his bunk. "Someone tried to attack our counselor and I defended her but in doing so, lost my temper and beat the guy up badly. I know that I should have only subdued the intruder but they had hurt her. I couldn't stand for it and wanted to make him hurt worse than she did." Thinking about the guy made his pulse quicken and his blood to boil. He took a deep breath to calm himself down. "I'm sorry if I let you down by being brigged and confined to quarters." He lowered his head, his face burning with the the remnants of his anger but also with the shame of the thought of the captain, his chief and the rest of the command being disappointed in him.

Smiling, "Son, you did the right thing in defending the counselor. Now we have to work on toning down that temper of yours. Has Ensign Doe spoken to you since then about setting up sessions?" Arianna asked Wulfgar. Arianna could feel his anger subside as the shame and embarrassment surfaced.

Wulfgar looked up and smiled weakly. "I don't usually lose my temper like that but the thought that she was hurt made me kinda blank out. I mean I knew what I was doing but I was like an observer in my body as something else controlled it. But I have been seeing Ja... I mean, ensign Doe. She has been visiting daily to keep me company but we have not had a session." He explained. "Would you like something to drink Ma'am?" He asked as he got to his feet and walked to the replicator."

"Jane is a sweet person and a good listener. It is good that she sees you everyday. I see a good thing coming out of these daily visits......oh yes please.....Earl Grey tea sweet.......and maybe something else developing as well I think," Arianna said smiling widely. She had a good feeling about these two, and the future was not set in stone yet, but it just might be a beginning of something good for both.

Wulfgar tapped the order for an earl grey, sweet and a coffee, black and sweet. He was carrying them back to his chief when she mentioned more to Jane's and his relationship. That made at least two senior officers that had noticed their closeness. He had almost dropped them but managed to not do so or even spill them. He sat them brown and passed the tea to Arianna. "I... We... We're just friends Ma'am. Nothing more." He stammered as his face went red. 'Yeah but your working on being more than that idiot!' He thought to himself which contributed to the heat of his red face. "I can always go see the other councelor, ensign Bailey, I think thats his name."

Arianna smiled and giggled, "Wulfgar your forgetting I am part Betazoid. I could sense your emotions as you spoke about Jane. I have nothing against you having the counselor as your bow. Frank and I started out as him being my superior officer on another ship, and when he got his command he requested that I be transferred and made me his chief. We got married and that's how we are here today," she said sipping her tea.

"We have been trying to keep it quiet. Other than the Captain and yourself, who all knows?" Wulfgar asked as he took a nervous sip of his coffee.

"Your secret is safe for now don't worry. Let the relationship blossom naturally. I will see what I can do to help. Maybe, security and the captain will understand it as defending a fellow crewmate in distress," Arianna said sipping her tea. She wondered why this person was in her quarters in the first place, what was he looking for?

"Your not upset at me for getting confined to quarters when I'm really needed in engineering?" Wulfgar asked. He was happy that at least the relationship between him and Jane would stay a secret for a bit longer.

"Confined to quarters for defending a fellow crew member, no I'm not angry but I need to know how much longer do they intend to keep you here? You are needed in Engineering yes, but.....well I guess I'm going to have to speak with the captain and find out how long he intends to keep my protégé locked up" Arianna said sipping on the tea.

"You don't need to, I told the Captain that I will accept any and all punishment bestowed upon me with grace and acceptance. I don't ask for favors to reduce the length. But one of the engineers has been bringing me the reports so I can keep up with what's going on." Wulfgar said as he took a drink of his coffee.

"I'm still going to speak with him. You are needed in Engineering, not here in confinement." Arianna said. It was true, she needed him in engineering.

"I would appreciate it. Not feeling the subtle feel of the warpcore that can only be felt in main engineering is the worst torture." Wulfgar said with a laugh.

"Wulfgar count on it. I will speak with him later tonight," Arianna said placing her hand on his shoulder. Getting up," I have to get back to Engineering. I've got them doing level 2 diagnostics on everything," she added. "Comm me if you need anything Wulfgar." She finished saying.

Wulfgar stood up and smiled gratefully. "Thank you Ma'am. I will." He winked at her. "And I'll be sure to make an appointment with the councelor."

Giving her young protégé a hug, she walked out of his quarters, heading directly to the captain.

Wulfgar went about picking the cups up and returning them to the replicator to be recycled. He thought about everything and nothing. He laid down to take a nap not to long after.
