Mystery Meeting Part 2

Posted on Sat Jun 20th, 2020 @ 6:51pm by Lieutenant Commander Arianna Sky Kamar & Major Naomi Sylan Griffiths & Lieutenant Shri'Rao Sh'veqan & Lieutenant JG Saffiya Hadat & Lieutenant Commander James Trallos MD & Lieutenant JG Zassia Sh'zyllit

Mission: Prime Mystery
Location: Ready Room

"Back in 2375, Starfleet commissioned a mission to observe the Ba'ku homeworld. At the start of the mission, it was believed that they were a pre-warp civilization, so the Prime Directive applied. Starfleet needed to come up with a way to observe the population while remaining undetected" Chief looked around the room for a few seconds, making sure that everyone was paying attention. He keyed in a few commands on a Padd that appeared in his hands, a holographic image appeared ontop of Captain Kamar's desk. The image showed a suit that was not too different from the standard Environmental suit, however, it did have a few modifications. "While the majority of the mission is classified, the original designs for the Isolation suits are still available. These suits used a localised cloaking field to render the user visually undetectable, though they will still appear on most scans such as infrared." Stopping again, Chief allowed the crew to process the information before continuing with his idea "I believe that we will be able to take the original designs, modify them and update them so that we can use the isolation suits to get closer to the crash site" Chief said finally, finishing his small pitch

The doctor looked up after thinking a moment and looked at their mission advisor. "Lieutenant Hadat, do you know if there is any record of a Federation ship or any known ship from the quadrant being lost near the Caretaker area? Welcome aboard by the way."

"Recently the USS Belisarius was lost with all hands though not in this area of the Quadrant," Saffiya said, keeping her tone level though she felt a shiver when she mentioned her brother's missing ship. She checked the readings on her PaDD linked to the ship's AI and records. "Though, if the records are correct, there is nothing here that relates to the timeline of the stricken vessel on the planet below"

Saffiya turned to the Captain. "Sir I would recommend if that if you're intending on sending down an Away Team, that they materialize some way from the crash site so not to alarm whoever is down there. This would give us some time to get better sensor and tricorder readings of the area and a clearer picture of what's actually down there".

"Maybe Yarinna can go in her fighter as it has enhanced scanner and sensor pot capabilities. No moon, she knows how to fly by night" Arianna said. "Besides if you think someone might be there, she would know it fast. And in any case, I'm going down on the Away team as well" she finished.

Rouni replied, "Understood Captain. But in defence of the fighter. I can fly and use my sensors to determine if there are any other ships in the area or other power signatures as well. I can cover a lot more of the surrounding area with the fighter that an away team can do on foot and also use my telepathy to check things out from the air. And if needed I can cover to Away team in close quarters combat if needed as well.

"Excuse me Lt Commander Kamar" Saffiya addressed the 2ic. "Permission to go down with the Away Team, I have tactical and security experience," she asked. Perhaps I'll get a chance to prove myself - Saffiya thought to herself and, also, she'd like to get off the ship having been moved around like so much freight cargo before she got on board the Penn.

"I'm not sending a fighter, there are only two onboard and they have been slated to go to the colony defence forces upon their arrival. We have a scout ship and a science ship, while not as fast both have enhanced scanning capabilities. We will be injecting an away team, I'd like to use Lieutenant Rouni as the shuttle pilot and Lieutenant Sh'veqan for security. Take along our new Mission Advisor and our new Chief of Science," Frank stated.

Sh’zyllit, who had been sitting there quietly watching the exchange between the officers, nodded in understanding of her part of the orders. Dividing her attention between the conversation and the PaDD in front of her, she began building a worklist to accomplish before the mission was started.

Saffiya finished her latte and, with a sense of relief that, at last, she would have something worthwhile to do as she had felt like a spare cog since her arrival onboard the Penn. She looked over to Lt Commander Kamar.

"What time do you want us to report to the Bay for departure?" Saffiya asked.

"Report immediately please," Frank responded, "I want to gather as much data as possible before meeting."

Rouni replied, "I would suggest the scout shuttle. It has more freedom of movement and can land in smaller areas than the science shuttle. Plus the scout shuttle adds some defensive capabilities that can do close in support as well. Also, suggest civilian clothing so the star fleet uniforms do not cause any questions Captain.

"Captain, if I may, another suggestion," Chief said while looking at Kamar, though he didn't wait for a reply "While it is important to keep the away team small, to reduce exposure and detection, it may be advisable to assign 1st Lt i-Ra'tleihfi from the Marine detachment as part of the team" He turned to face Lt Sh'veqan "I have no doubts in your abilities as Chief of Security, however, Lt i-Ra'tleihfi has had several years worth of experience in infiltration and deep cover assignments. His expertise and experience may be beneficial to our success" Chief offered, looking back at Kamar

Shri'Rao Nodded.

Griffiths looked up "Yeah, the guy is a true Romulan in thinking and attitude, but I have spoken to him and underneath all that Romulan upbringing and superior attitude common in his species he is a good guy and honourable, so I would say he is good to go undercover," she said giving the Romulan some praise.

M'Relar was near her security chief, already for anything, even for an away mission. Even being the newbie Security officer she was ready to get her feet wet for the mission but what should she do. She turned to her Security chief
Lt Sh'veqan. "Sir so what's next to do?" she asked her Security Chief.

"Captain, while they are scouting for subtle danger, I would recommend you send down not only a complete security detachment but also a planetary survey team. There are many questions that need to be answered. Shri'Rao advised.

“In the interest of agility, stealth, and speed, I will hand-select a few science officers to accompany me. I wish not to include more people than necessary,” Sh’zyllit replied simply, not looking up from her PaDD that she was writing notes on.

Saffiya nodded and closed down her PaDD, finishing off the now lukewarm latte. She looked across at Sh'zyllit and Lt Commander Kamar.

"I will see you in the Shuttle Bay with the assembled Away Team at 14:00 hrs if that's sufficient time for your preparations?" Saffiya asked.

Rouni replied, "Plenty of time for me, I keep a flight bag ready to go when needed. I will be in the shuttle Bay doing the pre-flight things I need to do. All of you can come when ready."

"I would like you to take Ensign K'relar with you for protection. She needs experience." Shri'Rao said.

"Excellent sounds like we're good to go," Saffiya said as she looked around the Command Crew and over to the CO. "If there's nothing else on the agenda I will get myself prepped and meet the Away Team at 14:00. If that's oka?"

“The time suffices. I’m indifferent to who security sends,” Sh’zyllit responded. A plan, a time, and the people were assigned, she was ready to start putting it into action.

Saffiya nodded as it seemed the meeting was over, though she expected the CO would want to add something or finish off proceedings. She was the newbie here and wasn't yet comfortable with the mix of personalities around the table.

"Looks like you are on Ensign," Shri'Rao said.

Frank listened as the conversation wrapped up, "All right everyone, you all have your assignments, I'll be on the bridge, report when you have results." The captain stood and left the room, mentally preparing for the mission ahead.
