New blood?

Posted on Sun May 31st, 2020 @ 3:28pm by Lieutenant Commander James Trallos MD & Lieutenant Commander Deannen Roinu

Mission: Prime Mystery
Location: Beach

The bright sun had slowly changed its trajectory and was now on its way to the horizon. It had some time left to go, but shadows had now started to show. James was looking around at the crew wandering around and all enjoying their leave. He also realized it was about time for a meal. He had lost track of time talking and enjoying the day in general. He walked to the bar but stopped, he saw someone he thought he recognized. One of those, "I know your face" moments. It finally dawned on him after too long of a time. It was the new Flight control Chief he saw in the briefing. He took this time to introduce himself in a much more pleasant environment than Sickbay getting stuck by a needle.

"Good afternoon Lieutenant....Roinu?"

Good afternoon Doctor, Nice to meet you in a casual manner. Last Doctor I saw was patching up wounds on my back after a dogfight. I had a good day then. I got 6 enemy fighters before the tagged me.

"Huh, I'll have to look at the scar tissue and see how the doctor did when we get to your physical. Pilots compair kills, doctor's compair surgical sites. I admit, this is much nicer then the sickbay. Plus, there are these." He said holding up a Mai Tai. "Six huh? Buy you a drink Ace?"

Rouni smiled, "Thanks Doctor, Dr Thompson did the surgery and there was very little scaring. She is one of the top plastic surgeons in Star Fleet. I was lucky she was around. I am wearing a swim suit and remove my cover. tossing it aside. I will have a Johnny Walker Red.

The scarring is mainly on my left shoulder. And I actually have 19 confirmed kills in my career."

"19 huh? Impressive" James looked at the scaring and saw only a trace of some lines along her back. "She did good work. Probably the only reason I can see them is I'm a doctor and know what to look for." He nearly reached out a hand to touch one and check for depth when he realized they had been gripping Mai Tais all afternoon and would be a very cold touch. "If you want visible scaring, that I can show you." He laughed.

Drannen smiled, "Not really, I am just glad the are hard to see." As She took a drink from the glass. " Also transporter locks on the pilots are better now. Which means we get beamed out faster than when I first became a fighter pilot. Soe accus me of using my telepathic things to give me and edge in dogfights but I don't due to Star Fleet Regulations."

James turned around and ordered another drink. "Believe me, in a dogfight, I'd highly encourage you to use all the advantage you can get. Some Admiral behind a desk making a rule who has never been in a true kill or be killed situation should not be making regs on combat." He said as he took a long tug on his new drink.

Deanen smiled, " or they have been sitting behind a desk for so long the forgot what it is like on the front lines. I heard 1 admiral has not been in a fight since the Borg tried to invade the Alpha Quadrant. And look at how long that has been since it happened.

He nodded. "Always seems to be the way. So what brings you to the DQ?"

I was in AQ and it was boring. Routine patrols and nothing happening. Doing escort of diplomats and high ranking Star Fleet members. I requested a transfer to some place where I may find some action. I don't like playing political games. I like to be where there is real duties. Not ceremonies.

"Yeah, you'll have better odds and the enemies here arnt as obvious. The Hirogen already killed a few of our crew in our first run-in. Had two people in a cage. Captain's daughter was one of the two we rescued. Used them as bait." James said and raised a glass to himself, remembering the crew lost.

Rouni raised her glass "To crew mates lost "

"To lost crewmates. I hope they were the last we will lose out here. Hopefully, well all live enough for them too." He said downing the drink. "How about something more pleasant, how long have you been flying?" He asked ordering up another.

Rouni relied,"I volunteered for fighter school while in the Academy. I guess that would be since 2370. There is something special about the fighters, I can do close in support for ground forces or fly a protective screen for the ship I am assigned to. Or do deep recon to help get better sensory data for the science and engineering teams to better protect the ship.

My last ship I went out deep in front of the ship to detect a strange abnormality closer then the Captain felt it was safe to risk the ship and full crew while we were studying it.

"Understood. Also sounds like a nice sense of freedom to go with it. James said. "Always enjoyable to watch fighters move and twist. Can look as much art as thrill ride."

Even in the zero gravity of space it can cause stress on the body as you do the dance in a dogfight. the freedom of being alone with your thoughts and in some cases making first contact with and alien race make it so thrilling. The maneuvers we perform can mean the difference between life and death. So sometimes on a routine patrol I practice them to keep my skills up. And also go to the holodeck to practice there as well.

"Good idea to keep up even on the milk runs. Don't want to lose the edge I imagine." He said taking a tug off the Mai Tai. "You don't get the luxury of a second chance."

I know and if I fail the fighter I miss may do some damage to the Pennsylvania. So I need to be on top of my game in a critical situation. And if an enemy fighter gets through then you will have more work to do in Sick Bay.

He laughed and raised his drink. "To not working more than I have to in Sickbay!" He took a drink. "And it's a good idea because unfortunately I'm the closest thing to a plastic surgeon in a hundred parsecs and I won't be able to hide the scar tissue nearly as well as she did. Then I'd feel bad being the one that left a blemish on your skin."

Understood Dr as she smiled at him. I always plan on coming back in the same shape I was in when I left the ship.

"That's good. If those thoughts change come see me first." He said with a laugh. "Another round?" He asked nodding at her mostly empty glass.

Thanks for the conservation Doctor as she smiled. "I am going for a swim, never know when we will get a chance to again.

"Just one for me then. Enjoy the water, it is really nice." The doctor said and pushed his empty to the bartender.
