First time visitor, long time procrastinator

Posted on Wed Mar 11th, 2020 @ 11:43pm by Lieutenant Commander James Trallos MD & Lieutenant JG Draestrad

Mission: Discovery
Location: Councilor Office

James made his way around the medical deck and came to the Councilor's office. He should have done this years ago but things got better. After their training session with SAR teams, things started getting worse again. It was too early into their voyage for this to happen again and he needed to get it fixed ASAP. He knew it would not be fast, so better start soon. He confirmed he was at the right door and pressed the chime.

Draestrad paused her music, a gorgeous recording of Kasseelian opera, and stood to greet the doctor. She idyll wondered if the captain chose his crew based on something so superfluous as appearance. The CMO was another spectacularly attractive being. Pushing those thoughts aside, she greeted her newest client.

“Doctor Trallos, how do you do? I’m Draestrad. May I get you a drink or something to eat?” offered the woman. He was taller than her and had piercing blue eyes.

"A drink would be good for this I think. Yes, please." James reached out his hand to the woman. "James Trallos, nice to meet you Draestrad. I appreciate you making some time to get me in today. It's been a long night for me."

The counselor turned her back on the man for a moment to retrieve a drink for him, though he didn’t say what he had wanted . Judging from the way he spoke, he had just finished his duty shift. She keyed a few commands and two Old Fashioned cocktails shimmered into existence, one of her favorites from Earth. “You’re my last for the day. Mind if I...what’s the term...wet my whistle?” Asked the counselor with a conspiratorial look on her face.

"Not at all. I might need a little liquid courage to loosen my tongue." James said with a little smile as he accepted the drink. "It's not something you'll be able to find in my file."

She smiled at the Doctor as she sipped her drink. “So, tell me about yourself Doctor. The floor is yours, so to speak” said the counselor.

James took a swallow of a drink and sighed as he sat down on one of the chairs. "I normally would not do this, but we are pretty early on our mission and I'm pretty sure this is not something that will go away quickly without some help."

"I've been having dreams. Nightmares to put it accurately. I was at a Cardassian world some years ago when I was on the Bajor. There was a terrorist attack on a new power plant. Hundreds injured and dead. I was doing my residency on the Bajor, and the Chief Medical Officer had me beam down with him. We felt we could do more on the ground then having them beam up slowly." James paused a moment.

"We were ambushed. The CMO was wounded and a fire fight broke out in triage. I defended my patients and dropped three of the attackers. It's replayed in my dream but now it's adding something not in my file. I was beamed down on another planet to triage some wounded from a Black ops. I was shot in the shoulder in the process. Again, ambushed during medical treatment." James said and took a drink again.

Draestrad made a conscious effort to keep her expression schooled as she listened to the man’s experiences. After a moment she spoke “Away team missions are often the most dangerous aspect of a Starfleet Officer’s job. It sounds like these experiences were quite a while ago. Do you have any idea why the dreams are coming back now? Do you feel stressed about something or someone here on the Pennsylvania?” She inquired.

"Well, we just finished a search and rescue training. We were finding a crashed shuttle in the holodeck. We got ambushed by one of our own pretending to be a Hirogren. I didn't get shot physically, but I would have been down for sure. If say I had a 50/50 chance based on where he said he would have shot me." James said with a sigh, frustrated that he caused so much noise in training.

The counselor sipped her drink for a moment, then spoke again. “It sounds like you’re in need of some rest and relaxation. I think we should schedule some leave for you. During that time, I’d like you to do some physical therapy, such as cardio or calisthenics, and take some time for personal reflection. It’s easy to neglect ourselves in favor of our duties, but eventually that catches up to us” she said, making notes on her PADD.

"Guess I need to start looking for a hobby then." James laughed. "Have to get myself out of Sickbay more often I guess too. I have been neglecting my Tai Chi lately anyway. Anywhere I should be looking to go as far as my personal reflection goes?"

“I’ll be happy to help there too. Guided meditation can sometimes be very useful. And keeping a journal or log forces us to see patterns that we can adjust for a better quality of life. Can I ask if you have a significant other in your life?” Inquired the woman.

"I would appreciate the help. I can repair a brain, but the mind is something far more complex than I'm able to fix. Especially my own. I appreciate the help. And no significant other. I'm just a Martian hillbilly doctor traveling the stars." James joked.

“Remind me to ask you what a *hillbilly* is. And I think I’ll join you for Tai Chi if it’s the group class. See you then?” Asked the counselor.

"Sure thing. I can make it a group class. Usually just me. Helps clear my mind and stretch. The hillbilly may take a while too but I'll be glad to share my family culture with you." James said with a quick smile of home in his mind. "I'll see you tomorrow morning in the gym for some Tai Chi."
