Mission: Discovery
Location: Bridge

Frank sat in his chair on the bridge watching the stars, the Overseer’s ship was barely visible without amplification. The design was different than most of the starships he had previously seen. The engineering side of his brain watched the ship wondering what they used for propulsion and what their top speed was. His train of thought was interrupted by the noise of the bridge officers conversing. I’d better quit daydreaming he chastised himself as he looked around at the officers manning their stations. It was a good crew and one he was proud to lead.

Lieutenant Shri'Rao was back on the bridge behind the Captain keeping a careful eye on her security display. So far they were at yellow alert level 2. It was more or less stand by battle stations. Sensors still showed that strange doppler effect. The specialists down in the science lab still had not come up with a solution though she knew progress was being made. If she had an opportunity to board the ship and take first-hand readings that might make a difference. The ship that they had been pacing seemed to be a Dalcari heavy cruiser class of ship. Its defences seemed quite formidable, however, their security level seemed to be about what Pennsylvania's was. Trust but verify. She had been working her SAR teams overtime to be ready for any eventuality. Still, this was an unknown and it kinda had her on edge a bit. That, however, was a good thing because it sharpened her Andorian senses, made her ready and gave her focus.

Sitting to the Captain's right Griffiths noted a look on the Captain's face and leaned over "what are you day-dreaming about Captain?" Griffiths asked Kamar.

Frank smiled and replied, "To be honest Major, I was thinking about the engines on the Dalacari ship, you can take an engineer away from the engines, but you can't remove it from his blood."

The turbolift to the bridge opened and James walked out onto the bridge in his lab coat. He walked over and stood off to the side of Lieutenant Sh'veqan at tactical. It was a nice out of the way place close to the turbolift if he was needed in a medical fast and would not interfere with any of the bridge staff. "Afternoon."

Arianna was monitoring the ships stats from her station, "Afternoon Dr Trallos, how are things in sickbay?" she asked.

"I don't want to jinx it, so it is the opposite of very busy. Which for my department is generally a good thing." He replied with a smile.

*Looks at Trallos* "I suppose I am going to have to get used to seeing our CMO wear his lab coat on the bridge!" Griffiths said

"Technically ma'am, I would be out of uniform without it," James replied. He looked down at it. "I'll make sure they all are clean if I'm visiting the bridge. We're clear down there so I thought I would see what all the fuss was about."

Chief was still silently standing at the Science console, working on a way to clear up the sensor data from the Dalacari ship. As he had suspected, being closer to the ship had made things a little easier, but the situation was far from perfect. He would have to figure out a way to cut through the duality of all the readings, but mostly the power signatures. They were messing up the calculations, however, Chief would do his best to work through it.

"Captain We are receiving a hail on the standard traffic channel, its got that strange doppler shift effect, Sir! Shri'Rao stated.

“On screen please,” Frank said as he straightened himself up in his chair.

The image of space was replaced by the visage of the twin bodies of the Overseer of the Dalacari craft, comfortably seated as they were before. The same bridge, the same layout, with the same mechanized security force in the background of the image.

"Captain. It's good to have the chance to speak with you again. I trust these past few days have been productive for you?" she opened, pleasantries it seemed were how every conversation should start.

“It is good to speak with you to Overseer. The last few days have been productive and have given a chance to study this area a bit more thoroughly,” Frank explained.

"That's excellent to hear." her forms perked up, honestly pleased to hear that things were going well. Emotions expressed by one seemed to be mirrored in the other. "I wanted to contact you to check-in, and also to let you know that I'm expecting to hear back from..." and like that, she was done. Her twin, again, seamlessly picked up the conversational flow.

"... the central agencies of the Republic relatively shortly. They're in something of a conference with a representative of our allies, the ..." and it happened again. It didn't even seem like something she was either aware of or consciously performing.

"... Ts'usu Empire. Should be hearing from them in the next few minutes, if everything goes smooth."

*Looks at Kamar* "okay that is strange!" Was all Griffiths said?

“Thank you, Overseer Dega, I do appreciate your assistance,” Frank replied.

Arianna was startled by their appearance again. However this time she did get a better view of the security forces ....oO They are Drones! Oo With that thought in her mind, she walked slowly to the captain's chair and softly told him what she had figured out. "Captain those are drones, her security force."

“Thank you, Lieutenant Commander, please keep an eye on the engines, we never know when we need a hasty escape,” Frank replied to his wife softly.

James looked puzzled and fascinated at the same time watching them speak. oO How do they know when one is going to take over speaking? How do they decide who speaks first, how long? Does one get bored halfway through and signal the other telepathically? Oo

Arianna walked back to her console and did exactly that. Keeping an eye on the drones and making sure the engines were 100% ready for anything. With Yarinna at the helm, she had to be prepared for her sudden jump to warp.

Yarinna didn't need to turn around to know what Arianna was thinking, she already knew and was already plotting escape vectors. One could never be too careful, especially out here.

Shri'Rao's antennae shot up in pure curiosity.

The Overseer's attentions were called to someone to her left and down. "Madam Overseer, we're receiving a communication from the Central Cartographic Center." and the Overseer gave a pair of nods, "Excellent. Captain Kamar, apologies but this was the communique I was expecting. I'll contact you back momentarily." and after a brief moment to exchange pleasantries, the screen went dead once again. Black space with the image of the Dalacari cruiser on the screen. Sleek, quick, built for speed. Her shape and form were curved and styled, designed for possible ease of transition from the atmosphere to vacuum. An all-environment craft.

"They are certainly punctual," Shri'rao stated.

It was hardly a few minutes before the Dalacari craft once again hailed Pennsylvania.

"Apologies Captain, that was exactly the comm I was waiting for. We have a small selection of worlds in the local region that meet your..."

"... requirements. Size, atmosphere composition, gravity, water to land ratios, availability of resources and proximity to key strategic..."

"... locations. Though, as I'm certain you were expecting from the start, there is a small catch." a pause, "The Republic, as well as the Ts'usu Empire..."

"... would each like to construct a small hub on the chosen world. I've been informed that this is not a military hub or some barracks..."

"... but rather a trade outpost, and a bit of assistance to help get your colony off the ground. Not technically off the ground but, you know what I'm getting at." the conversation flowed from one form of the Overseer to the other flawlessly, without hesitation or indication. If anyone listening were only getting the audio or were to close their eyes, they'd probably never know about the fact that there were two speakers on the Dalacari craft.

"I'm sorry if this is a deal-breaker, Captain."

“Overseer, this is a deal that we can make. I believe a trade outpost would be excellent. Whenever it is off the ground, I would like to buy the two of you celebratory drinks to toast our future dealings together,” Frank replied as diplomatically as he could sound.

James' ears perked up. If that meant an open bar at some fancy diplomatic thing he would be glad to go. He wanted to know more about this species and would have no objection learning about their alcohol.

Arianna's eyes went wide at the prospect of getting a first-hand look at Dalacari technology. Speaking up, "Overseer, would it be possible to study some of your ship's technology? I am the ships Chief Engineer and I am fascinated by her design.

"The two of...?" the Overseer looked puzzled for a moment. Then something seemed to click. "Oh, oh I see because... No no, there's not two of me, Captain. Dalacari is binary instance lifeforms. What you see as two Dalacari sides by..."

"... the side would be one healthy, complete Dalacari. You know, it might help illustrate it, and give your eager Chief of Engineering a..."

"... chance if you were to visit. Would you be opposed to a diplomatic dinner? You and whoever of your staff you wish to bring. I'll host." the silent form motioned to the bridge around her, to illustrate that she'd be willing to host the event.

"Say, six hours standard from now? Though, I must insist that since this would be a social gathering, no scanning equipment please."

“My apologies Overseer, we will meet you in six hours for dinner. Thank you for your help,” Frank said thoughtfully as he began to wonder which of his senior officers would be attending the dinner.

"Think nothing of it. I know I must look as unusual to you as you look to me." She offered to smooth the air. She took no offence, and that was clear.

"We'll have everything prepared by then. Looking forward to it. Until then." and after a moment for pleasantries, the comm was dropped, and the view of the stars replaced the overseer and the Dalacari bridge.

Frank stood and stepped in front of the viewscreen so he could see the entire bridge, "Chief, go ahead and begin analyzing the data the Dalacari sent over, after dinner this evening we will begin moving to the first set of coordinates. I’d like Yarinna to plot courses based on our current distance and time of travel."

"Understood Captain. I will have all of the courses plotted and input into the nav-com, sir", Yarinna said.

As this was going on Griffiths stood up and went to the back of the bridge and using a secondary screen called up all the information they had on the Dalcari species, if she was wanted, she would be called.

Chief nodded at the Captain's request "I have already begun the analysis, so far everything looks promising. I will be able to make a more detailed report once you return from dinner" he added with a smile. Since Chief was a hologram, he would be unable to leave the ship and go to the dinner, but it would give him plenty of time to review all the data sent by the Dalacari

Arianna was excited by what she had heard about the invitation and dinner so of course, she was half expecting the captain to say something but that would be too good to be true. To get a good look at their technology and their ship would fantastic.
